I can't help thinking about Windows this week, after successfully & easily installing OS X Lion on my iMac. Everything worked perfectly THE FIRST TIME!!!

Week 13 (v 8.0) - while sun basking

The 1953 Western classic film Shane was largely filmed in the Jackson Hole Valley. Most of the set locations for the film have long ago been dismantled including the town that was built on the Antelope Flats and several other cabins. This cabin and two other smaller structures just next to it are the only set from the movie that remain. The three structures were actually real cabins of early Jackson Hole settlers that were repurposed for the movie. In a major plot of the movie, a powerful rancher was trying to force the homesteaders out of their homes to secure control of the valley for his ranch. This cabin was the cabin of homesteader Ernie Wright in the movie. From the window on the western wall of the cabin, you get a nice view of the mountains.

Santa was very good to me this year. He brought me a new 5D. Now, I just need some time to play with it!

Freddie feels the top window is his own domain. I feel the sky background really sets off his colors. A great contrast.

Today is the feast of St Paulinus, first Archbishop of York, who was sent by Pope St Gregory the Great in 601, with St Mellitus and others, to help St Augustine of Canterbury and to carry the pallium to him.

Before leaving Kent, he was consecrated bishop by St Justus, Archbishop of Canterbury. He was successful in converting Edwin and large numbers of his people, the king's baptism taking place on 12 April, 627.

With the assistance of St Edwin, he established his see at York and began to build a stone church there. His apostolic labours in instructing and baptizing the people of the north country were unceasing, and tradition perpetuates his ministry at Yeavering, Catterick Bridge, Dewsbury, Easingwold, Southwell, and elsewhere, while his own name is preserved in the village of Pallingsburn in Northumbria.

This window with scenes from the saint's life is in St Cuthbert's Chapel, Ushaw College and it was designed by Pugin.

One of the things I hate about living in an old condo is the poor insulation and today it was about -17C. So along with researching our spring trip, my wife and I spend a good chunk of time today insulating the windows.

This is a detail of the Fisher Body Plant 21, which I posted a few days ago.

If I remember correctly, this is a combination of two vintage patterns I had on file. I pulled the design of the central sunburst medallion from one window, and the floral vine-work from another. Add a few antique jewels, and there you go.

this one was shot through a closed window

Alright, dear readers, it must be said: I have a crush on General William Jackson Palmer.

He wooed me with his passion for creating a healthy, cultured society. Then seduced me with his sense of fairness and familial loyalty to the workers in his employment. There's nothing more to be done, he has my heart.

A decorated Civil War hero who made his fortune in the railroad business, Palmer (1836-1909) left his mark on towns throughout the state of Colorado. But Colorado Springs was special to the General. It was the place he chose to live, the town where he wished to bring his wife "Queen" Mary Lincoln Mellen Palmer (photo), and where he hoped to raise his three girls, Elsie, Dorothy and Marjory.

Last weekend I had a chance to visit Glen Eyrie (c. 1904), Palmer's historic residence in Colorado Springs. A staggering 33,000 square feet sited on more than 700 acres, the building has 33 bedrooms, 23 bathrooms and 24 fireplaces.

Window of Hope. Hope is the state which promotes the belief in good outcomes related to events and circumstances in one's life. Hope is the "feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best" or the act of "looking forward to something with desire and reasonable confidence" or "feeling that something desired may happen" . Hope is a key concept in most major world religions, often signifying the "hoper" believes an individual or a collective group will reach a concept of heaven.

She caught my eye when she'd come to the window to help a customer. As she moved about the shop, I waited for one still moment.
