There's a kind of wild beauty to the dried up stands of weeds on a building site. Still one of my favourite hunting grounds.
Fergus County. The Wilder Trail leaves Highway 191 and heads northeast for perhaps 25 miles before reaching the Wilder area. Wilder was originally sited along the Missouri River at the Rocky Point Crossing, a low-water ford. It began around 1880, when C.A. Broadwater built a two-story trading post near Rocky Point. It was named after Amherst Wilder, a business partner of his. By 1885, Wilder had a hotel, store, blacksmith shop and two saloons. A post office opened at Wilder in 1886 (June 10) with Robert Richie serving as the first postmaster. A many years, Wilder was along a stage route between Malta and several points south of the Missouri (i.e., Fort Maginnis, Flatwillow, Junction City). In 1918, the post office moved from the Rocky Point area to the south, above the Missouri Breaks, to Luella Belyea's homestead. Elma Peterson took over as postmaster in 1920 and served in that position until 1935. The post office building was destroyed by fire in 1939 and the Wilder post office was discontinued on November 30 of that year. Bertine Mathison was the last postmaster at Wilder.

This wild wisteria was blooming all over the forests of Myrtle Beach - giving a truly magical quality to the already beautiful woods there.
The Wild Weasel concept was originally proposed in 1965 as a method of countering the increasing North Vietnamese SAM threat, using volunteer crews flying the two-seat F model of the F-100 Super Sabre. While an effective airframe, the F-100F Wild Weasel did not have the performance characteristics to survive in a high threat environment. The first Wild Weasel squadron was the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron based at Takhli Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand. After 45 days of operations against North Vietnamese targets, the 354th had one airplane left and of the 16 aircrew members, four had been killed, two were POW's, three had been wounded and two had quit.
When I was in Cox's Bazar, I saw these wild flowers and really liked the colors. The bricks were once part of a coast line which is slowly going under water as you can see in my last picture. The last light from the sun created a really nice effect over the leaves and flowers.

Cox's Bazar is a town, a fishing port and district headquarters in Bangladesh. It is known for its wide sandy beach which is the world's longest natural sandy sea beach. It is an unbroken 125 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. It is located 150 km south of Chittagong. (WIKIPEDIA)

We saw this group of wild swimmers heading up the Ouse from Barcombe. They were not hanging about given they were heading upstream. I've got a load of film shots of them I have yet to get developed, but I think this is an interesting shot.
I saw a documentary about wild swimming the other day; it was interesting in that putting yourself at the level of the river makes the critters much less afraid of you. If I wasn't such a rubbish swimmer I'd give it a go :o)

Wild Horse, CO, was established in 1869, when a detachment from the local US Army calvary came across hundreds of wild horses gathered at a watering hole.
The Kansas Pacific extended a railway line through the area and from 1869 through 1906, Wild Horse was just a station. The boom for the town came in 1906 and the town peaked by about 1911. Wild Horse boasted a drug store, two restaurants, three saloons(though one only lasted a week), two cream stations, a barber shop, and more. The Wild Horse Times was the town newspaper, and in 1912, the schoolhouse was built. The local bank, the Alfalfa Valley Bank, called Wild Horse "the best little town in the west." But bad fortune was quick to befall the town. A series of fires soon hit Wild Horse, and in 1917, a big fire erupted from a toppled stove in one of the cream stations, and almost the entire eastern half(which also happened to be the business side) of the town was destroyed. Residents tried to rebuild, but with the Great Depression and "dirty thirties," many residents left to find greener pastures.
Today, not much remains of the town. Blink and you'll miss it driving by on the highway. The original school house still stand, in great condition, and a few buildings and houses are scattered around the land. A few people still call this town home, but it will never return to the glory days it once enjoyed.
Dipsacus fullonum...there are many vivid and descriptive folk names for this plant such as brush and comb,johnny prick the finger,and ouch you mother.

This image is from a while back, but the weather is about the same today - rain, fog, and maybe a little colder though. The light snow changed to rain last night and this morning all the roads are clear and it is a lot warmer than the last couple of days.
Today is a memorial service in Tucson for the victims of the shooting and the recovery of Congresswoman Giffords. President Obama will be attending. A friend of mine from New Mexico called to ask if she could park at my home which is near the venue there. I wish that I could attend but I am in Washington state at this time. It was nice to talk with her about the tragedy and the condition of the rhetoric in this country and its effect on the vulnerable and unstable.

I walked through the park after my visit to the Whitney Museum in NYC (that is where I saw the Friedlander show). The reminders of fall were everywhere still.
I got some sad news today. turns out the tragedy in Tucson hit closer to home than I first thought. My daughter went to school (a gifted high school) with Gabe Zimmerman who died in the shooting and I met him through her on occasions. I did not make the connection till she called me and told me of this. He was 30 years old, the same age as my daughter.
Near the harbor of my city there is a very little garden, complete with a brook.
And here there are many wild flowers, very beautiful and interesting.
A small corner of peace and greenery where you can relaxing..
