Usually found near some oak (acorns are a favorite food). The best habitat includes a mixture of woodland and open, clear areas.

This wild wisteria was blooming all over the forests of Myrtle Beach - giving a truly magical quality to the already beautiful woods there.
This illustration of a Discus ("The King Of Tropical Fish!"), took around 8 hours to complete the 'Wild Discus' originates from the Amazon Basin and comes in many varieties (my favourite species include Jack Whattly Lemons and and Pigeon Bloods), i personally think the Discus with it's 'disc' like body shape is the ultimate species for a tropical aquarium, be aware though these are specialist fish, if new to fish keeping you should firstly build up a sound Discus knowledge base regarding their particular aquatic needs including the financial long term costs involved in maintaining their environment before considering a purchase. However once up and running these majestic creatures will give you great enjoyment whilst becoming an attractive focus point of any room, enjoy the graphic.
I startled a wild turkey (or should I say it startled me when it flapped off with great loud flapping sounds). I went over to the spot she rose from and found her nest. Hope she comes back.
The nest is made from long leaf pine needles. I would estimate the mother weighs at least 20 lbs. Her tail feathers look like a brown fan as she flies up at a 45 degree angle.

A wild rabbit eating in the lawn.
After an 8 year hiatus from photography, to let my carpal tunnel improve...I've decided to get back into it. First I gotta get used to this new camera's controls. This is a practice photo of a wild rabbit grazing in my lawn.
Dipsacus fullonum...there are many vivid and descriptive folk names for this plant such as brush and comb,johnny prick the finger,and ouch you mother.

This image is from a while back, but the weather is about the same today - rain, fog, and maybe a little colder though. The light snow changed to rain last night and this morning all the roads are clear and it is a lot warmer than the last couple of days.
Today is a memorial service in Tucson for the victims of the shooting and the recovery of Congresswoman Giffords. President Obama will be attending. A friend of mine from New Mexico called to ask if she could park at my home which is near the venue there. I wish that I could attend but I am in Washington state at this time. It was nice to talk with her about the tragedy and the condition of the rhetoric in this country and its effect on the vulnerable and unstable.

I walked through the park after my visit to the Whitney Museum in NYC (that is where I saw the Friedlander show). The reminders of fall were everywhere still.
I got some sad news today. turns out the tragedy in Tucson hit closer to home than I first thought. My daughter went to school (a gifted high school) with Gabe Zimmerman who died in the shooting and I met him through her on occasions. I did not make the connection till she called me and told me of this. He was 30 years old, the same age as my daughter.
While most of the wild proboscis monkeys were close to each other in a cluster, some animals were slightly far from the group, as this pair right here. Detailed notes as well as real close-ups of proboscis monkeys, both male and female, appear in my Sandakan and Lubok Monkey Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary set.
