2018-01-13 MICHAEL GERMON Almagest whitespace Atlanta
Reception for Mike Germon's new solo installation: ALMAGEST, this Saturday, January 13th from 7-10 at Whitespec (basement of Whitespace Gallery at 814 Edgewood Ave
Atlanta, GA 30307).
"In some ancient civilizations, common people often feared practitioners of science and alchemy as wielders of secret arts and dangerous knowledge. Astrologers, chemists, and priests served as inspiration for folk tales and legends of powerful magicians, wizards, and sorcerers. Through my collage work, I’m interested in investigating the instances where science and mysticism collide, and perhaps become indistinguishable. In "Almagest", I seek to expand on these themes. Through the use collage, assemblage, and installation, we explore the symbols and narratives of an imagined belief system in the form of a ceremonial alter.

2018-10-26 TOMMY TAYLOR Threshold whitespace Atlanta
Join us for the opening reception of Threshold, a series of new paintings by Tommy Taylor, October 26 from 7 to 10 pm. Threshold is defined as the magnitude or intensity that must be exceeded for a specific reaction, phenomenon,
result, or condition to occur or to be manifested. It is, also, considered to be a gateway and point of entry. Taylor uses the human form to explore this tension through his new body of work - the struggle between disorder and
resolution, the nexus between consciousness and unconsciousness.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tommy Taylor's previous work, Some Sort of Solitude, 2012, was composed of dreamlike imagery that blended pop culture symbolism into complex references of reflections and memories. In 2014, Senga, Taylor and whitespace
collaborated to create a site-specific installation and series of paintings that worked in tandem to provide an immersive experience at Ponce City Market. More recently, Tommy Taylor has been producing artworks for Starbucks
concept stores and cafes throughout the United States.
