Peek-a-boo! A male great white shark pops his face in the frame! White sharks have a tendency to sneak up on you at times, especially when you're more focused on looking at another shark through the viewfinder. It's not uncommon to turn another direction only to find another photogenic shark in the viewfinder ready for a close-up.
Walter Whiteshark is a male great white shark who was identified at Isla de Guadalupe 3 years ago. He was given his name (presumably based off the Breaking Bad character) through the photo identification project at the island. I've been fortunate enough to see Walter 3 years in a row.
Lucy, a female great white shark and frequent visitor to Isla de Guadalupe, is more interested in whatever is to her left than she is in my camera.
"Cal Ripfin," a male white shark named for his mutilated dorsal fin, swims toward the camera to say, "hi." If you look closely at his nose the sunlight passing through the water has created a "rainbow" effect.
Fought the urge to crop this. I kinda liked the light the bait, reflections, the mackerel, and you know who gliding in.
