Legend, a male great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), gets up close and personal with my camera, off of Mexico's Isla de Guadalupe biosphere reserve.
Despite how they are often portrayed in the media, many great white sharks are often shy and cautious when it comes to divers. They often will keep their distance. This guy was obviously not one of the more cautious sharks and was very curious about my camera gear and the surface cages we were using for this dive.
Attempting to re-process raw files from my Guadalupe Island Shoot. I still cringe at some of my original attempts. That Blue water is tough to work with.

All Wellfleet beaches bear signs like this. For at least a decade, geat white sharks have been observed near shore on the Outer Cape. This was not the case when Peter Benchley's novel "Jaws" was published in 1974 (the movie followed in 1975), but reality simply lagged behind art. The sharks prey on the Cape's large population of gray seals, which we often see just off shore. In recent years, white sharks have attacked swimmers in this part of the Cape, one of the attacks being fatal. Maguire Landing Beach, Wellfleet, Cape Cod (17 August, 2020).
Heard it was shark week :) We will be off to South Africa to work with Nile crocs late this week and then with white sharks the first week of September.
Hope everyone is having a good summer.
A great white shark at the surface. This is a fairly unique shot as the white shark's left pectoral fin is almost perpendicular to the surface.
