The community of White Point along Aspy Bay is one of the first established communities in this region of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. The main occupations in the past were farming and fishing. Farming became a local industry while fishing became an export industry. The main type of fish was cod, but they also fished haddock, hake, and halibut. Swordfish became a highly sought after fish after World War II.
Lobster fishing became popular in the mid eighteen hundreds, which gave rise to a canning industry. A canning facility was built at White Point. Today, lobster and snow crab are the main stay of the fishing industry here.
White-point (Mythimna albipuncta) An immigrant to the British Isles, occurring mainly in the south and south-east of England northwards to Norfok. Numbers vary from just a handful per year to hundreds in the best years, though larger numbers are unusual.
The species occurs mainly in August and September, although there are records from June to October. In favourable years breeding may take place, and the species has occasionally become temporarily established in the south-east.
It is quite common in Europe, where the larvae feed on various grasses.

Our instructors took us to a a wonderful place north of Abiquiu, NM on private land to which we were allowed access for an afternoon of photographic bliss. This is only one of the fabulous vistas we encountered during that magical afternoon and evening.

This is on the road to White Point at 7am, it is a scenic detour off the Cabot Trail, a road I had never been on before but I really recommend taking it.

Hospital appointment Wednesday at 7:30am - pre-operation - this is in preparation to have my thyroid removed on the 21st of this month. When this is done and all lab reports say I am good to go I will be preparing for a trip to Ethiopia and Tunisia. It has been one a year since I have been to another country, I really hope it all comes together.

This is a real jewel of Cape Breton, beautiful and secluded, there is a great hiking trail out to the point of land and many different birds can be seen. I did not take the hike as I would have needed about a hour or more that I did not have.

I guess my wife can pretty much testify that my reaction to this scene was exactly like that guy on youtube...
That same evening at Mono Lake where we had that EPIC light.. It was just too bad the rainbow didn't appear over the lake... Had not much time to find a comp, so set up, and got this... IN retrospect, I could have done much more I suppose, but I guess this shot was more to showcase that thunder cloud illuminated by the sun behind us, and also the briliant rainbow. Just just glad there was not too much banding in the sky cos i polarized the heck outta this shot to bring out the colors of the rainbow..
On a side note, I recently purchased a Canon Pixma 9000 Mark II... I hope it lives up to its hype!.. Was just assigning profiles in PS to see what happens, and OMG, this shot is sRGB does NOT do this scene justice... Was totally blown away when I assigned Adobe RGB to it...
Now I just gotta wait for the printer to arrive, and the photo paper, before I start running test prints.. Wish me luck!!
Guess what? Calibrated the monitor (again) to a new native of whitepoint of 1.8 Gamma.. Flickr and firefox don't seem to play well, so what the heck... Chrome's my new browser, and all my contacts' pictures look WAAAAYYYYY better!!!! Woohoo!
You've found this - now go down to the Opera's roof to view another great photo!
The new Oslo Opera House in bird's eye perspective, two days after the grand opening on April 12th, 2008. The sun has set on the Opera house here, but still shines on the container harbour in the background.
Hopefully, Snøhetta's beautiful new Opera house is the beginning of a facelift for Oslo's harbour.
May I Entice You to View this on White and Large?
The original was a bit bluecast, setting black-, grey- and whitepoint with the colour picker in the Levels layer in Photshop helped a lot.
The map location for this image, as the the other's I've posted on the same map location, is the viewing point. The area seen in this image is south of the viewing point.

I just want to apologize for not being around to comment much or upload photos lately. Been really busy with so many other things. I hope to do some visiting tonight and over the weekend though.
What:
A cool little spot I found just off the Cabot Trail.
Where:
White Point (Cabot Trail)
Cape Breton,
Nova Scotia, Canada
About:
Yet another shot from my trip around the Cabot Trail. I keep mentioning this but the storm clouds seemed to come and go all day. Got rained on a few times, hit with a hail storm and saw a great rainbow. Best of all though were the great clouds.
Please, no invites or crazy glittery graphics. Just a simple comment is nice.
Thank You
