The entrance to the Joseph E. Yoakum show at The Museum Of Modern Art (MoMA.) NYC -- February 9, 2022
A muggy summer day
in the garden,
photographing
Emperor gum moth instars.
A Karearea shrieks
from behind me
I know this sound well enough
to turn around quickly.
Whoosh, Whoosh
two birds speedily
bank through
our garden cloister
Cutting the air
at break neck speed
The falcon, hot on the tail
of her next tiny victim.
Zip they were gone.
A 'WOW' burst forth from
my mind and body.
The cats eyes are black.
And mine are imprinted
with the unmistakably
stealthy silhouette
of this hunter of the sky.
Quite extraordinary
to have a raptor flyby
at the edge of suburbia
in little Naenae.

I tried my best to capture the silhouette with a biro pen on paper. The edges ended up squiggles so I squiggled him in too. Such a distinctive shape they are. Think it came out all right. I used it to overlay on a photo of the inside of a card & sent it to my good friend Mark. He asked for a copy but so far I haven't managed to make the digital creation real yet.
Wishing you a fabulous weekend.
