when she saw me taking pictures, she said: "miss..miss, please don't put my picture in a museum"....smile.... it's always nice to see how easygoing the people back home are. despite the hard work they probably make less than US$80 a month. yet they might be happier than those who have more....

The Peking is a bronze metallophone from western Indonesia included in Gamelan Degung ensembles. It is struck with a mallet whist the other hand dampens the last note by holding the key struck previously. It is pitched higher than the similar looking Cémprés.

Pekings are assigned the number 111.222 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification of musical instruments ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbostel-Sachs ), indicating:

1 = Idiophones. Sound is primarily produced by the actual body of the instrument vibrating, rather than a string, membrane, or column of air.

11 = Struck Idiophones. These idiophones are set in vibration by being struck.

111 = Directly Struck Idiophones. The player himself executes the movement of striking; whether by mechanical intermediate devices, beaters, keyboards, or by pulling ropes, etc.

111.2 = Percussive idiophones. The instrument is struck either with a non-sonorous object (hand, stick, striker) or against a non-sonorous object (human body, the ground).

111.22 = Percussion plaques.

111.222 = Sets of percussion plaques.

Wayang golek are wooden doll puppets that are operated from below by rods connected to the hands and a central control rod that runs through the body to the head. The simple construction of the puppets belies their versatility, expressiveness and aptitude for imitating human dance.

In the 18th century the tradition moved into the mountains of West Java where it eventually was used to tell stories of the Ramayana and the Mahabarata in a tradition now called wayang golek purwa, which can be found in Bandung, Bogor and Jakarta. Wayang golek purwa has become the most popular form of wayang golek today and the most famous puppeteer family is the Sunarya family which has produced several generations of stellar performers.

My Fifth summit since high school. With a group of four members we get off to Garut, West Java by motorbike before sunrise to climb Mount Cikuray. We were so lonely with only 2 groups that we met along the trek and the other 2 groups at the peak. The starting point was very interesting because we start climb from tv transmitter station and to reach there from city road was very challenging. We have to took about 7 kilometers riding at village roads and other 3 kilometers at farm roads. The journey also very challenging with not so good trek and foggy weather. The peak of the mount only covers small area with such a windy condition. At the peak we could see another mounts at Garut such as Papandayan and Guntur.

One of large botanical park at Jonggol, Bogor. It was fun at the location but the location itself is frustrating with jams at the time, even there was no taxi when leaving. Our family even prefer Bedugul over Mekarsari for this very reason of impracticality.

Kebun Raya di Jonggol, Bogor. Menyenangkan di lokasi, tetapi cukup melelahkan untuk menempuh perjalanan karena macet dan ketiadaan taksi. Mending ke Bedugul.
