These lovely swallows are the Australian equivalent of our Barn Swallow. Not quite a migratory as the northern species they are very alike - even down to the twittering song

A Welcome Swallow sits quietly for a few short seconds on old fencing wire, before quickly darting off to catch insects in the wetland adjacent. I did try for some time to get one in a flight dive but they are so very quick and hard to keep in focus. They are little acrobats and fun to watch.

Borrowing a line used by the 8,000 protesters who gathered in Los Angeles streets yesterday;

"“Say it loud, say it clear: immigrants are welcome here”

It's something of a Statue of Liberty thought.

The ring-necked parakeet although established in the south is still a rarity in the north.

I was therefore delighted when I heard they had been seen in a local park and more specifically on my allotment.

I managed to see the pair fleetingly last week but finally caught up with them a few days ago.

Whilst not popular with some I think they are wonderful and hope you do too.

They are UK's only naturalised parrot.

Taken on a 28 hour fly in visit to Montreal. Found this in the city center whilst finishing lunch - short break. icy cold, my hands were stiff numb. The dampness in the air made it more difficult. Well got a shot or two .

This is DRI. Used two sets of exposures . 2 composites generated from 5 exposures each. Auto blending modes for each composite. Layered back (blending mode) a darker expsoure for the contrast . layer masked the 2 composites ;-)

Happy New Year everyone! Taken in Grand Teton National Park.

I recently posted an image of Shelburg Falls that recently re-opened after being closed for almost 4 years due to wildfires. Well, the next weekend the Forest Service also opened the two Falls at Butte Creek. This one is Butte Creek Falls proper. This gem has been in hiding.

Honestly, it still looks the same, but at least now we can get to it again. :)

Mittenwald is a small and pretty alpine village which lies at the foot of the Karwendel mountains. It is renowned for its beautiful frescoed houses and for the luthier art. Goethe called it "a lively picture book".

C-FHCM, a Boeing 737-8 MAX 8, on approach to runway 24R at Toronto Pearson International Airport at Mississauga, Ontario. It was arriving as WJA658 (WestJet Airlines Ltd.) from Calgary, Alberta.

Having not operated its fleet of MAX 8s since March 13, 2019, when Transport Canada grounded the type, WestJet placed them back into service on January 21, 2021.

The 0655 Bristol East Depot to St Austell via the Fowey branch is seen passing a local welcoming committee on the sea wall at Teignmouth. The wall was shrouded in some light sea mist so the promised sun hadn't materialised yet.

The two LSL 37s were immaculately turned out as was the stock.
