Needless to say, my daughter in Estes Park, Colorado, was a bit surprised to find this large and handsome young elk, apparently finding the potentilla bushes at the entrance to his approval, comfortably and patiently awaiting her arrival home from her walk with the baby. She wisely extended the walk until he relocated.

There is an interesting Riddle that explains how Welcome Washington got its name. The US Post Office opened an office there in 1889. John Welcome Riddle was the very first Post Master. Evidence of a community is sparse today. Evidence of salmon and eagles is plenty.

A worn-out doormat with an owl couple welcoming you ;-))
These owls reminded me of an origami model that I had already folded years ago, but had not taken a picture of. But know I have (see first comment box ) ;-))
I edited this photo to make the owls and the sign welcome more visible.
pano from two shots of the Lofoten Wall at Storvatnet, Northern Norway. Those rocky textures are so magnificent, I just could not stop looking and photographing. They certainly reminded me of illustrations of how people imagined Jotunheim, the land of the ice giants to look like :)
