I chose to emulate Weegee’s style of urban life photography in today's modern world of Disneyland. Disneyland is a fast-paced, high-density, and culturally diverse environment, it was only fitting. Although my photograph does not capture a certain event or tragedy, it does capture the color, the weight and density of a type of photograph Weegee would have captured himself. In my photograph I made sure it was black and white with a high-contrast. The original did have color, but it was already night time; I adjusted the lighting to make sure it gave dark and vibrant. Weegee is known to capture raw and powerful images; I believe with my photograph I am able to capture a sense of immediacy, and facial expressions that suggest an emotion that he would capture as well. In Disneyland people are accelerated and may be overstimulated, trying to get from point A to point B, and that is the emotion I tried to capture for my rendition photograph of Weegee.

For this photograph, I chose to imitate the style of Weegee, a photographer known for focusing on urban life and strong lighting to capture the modern city at night. Weegee’s work focused on everyday things like cars, buildings and streets. His photographs often relied on high contrast and available light. In my photograph, I chose to take two parked cars at night with a brightly lit modern building in the background. The glowing taillights and interior lights create sharp contrast in the darkness, just like Weegee’s use of artificial light to draw attention to structure and form. The cars serve as symbols of modern life, while the building is the modernist architecture and design. I did not stage or alter the scene, I allowed the environment to present itself naturally. This straightforward approach aligns with modernism by focusing on realism, urban subject matter, and the visual impact of light within a modern city setting.
