One of my many designs for my day job (producing wedding stationary). All the cards are produced at minimal cost to the environment, which is a cause I'm very passionate about.
My first "real" paying calligraphy gig. 130+ envelopes, all states written out. I had no idea it would take me so long to finish...2.5 days, a broken back and a shattered hand later...
It was so much fun!

This was the actual wedding invitation for my wedding. Designed by Kim and myself, it consisted of a watercolor and acrylic original with text overlay done in Photoshop. These were printed at 20x30".
The idea and design belongs completely to Kim. She did the original drawing and then painted the background in acrylics. She then inked in the outlines and painted the rest in watercolor. I just scanned it in added the text.

Wow, i think everyone has gotten their invite by now :) I have received quite a few compliments, i am so very pleased.
First i made the bottom sheet of paper of course. Made completely of post consumer waste and the rose petals from my mom, along with some glitter and lavender buds costing $6. The purple flower that i embellished it with i purchased on etsy, but b/c she got my order wrong (twice) and then the shipping wrong, she very generously refunded my money.
The top sheet of velum was written up and printed by my Aunt Alice as part of my wedding gift. I cut the corners myself with a lace corner cutter by Martha Stewart using a half off coupon (it was $12, but it is something that i'll use again so i'm only counting $6 of that as wedding money). The heart hole at the top i already had a the hole punch. I bought 3 spools of ribbon that were used on these, costing me $2 (and i have leftovers for another project later!). The pearls were tricky b/c i had to cut each strand, then glue each end!! They cost $4.50. I tied the pearls to the ribbon the the ribbon in a bow around the papers. I used the heart from the hole punch to glue to the outside of the velum for some dimension.
The envelopes are 100% post consumer waste made in America. I bought 500 for $60, and i will sell the extras on etsy and at craft stores and in projects and such. Hopefully i will turn a profit on them, but right now they cost 11 cents each.
The return address labels are from VistaPrint, which i love, and were free with $3 shipping.

The calligraphy i did myself with a kit i had purchased in high school and never got around to using until now (yes, of course i still have it, you've seen my house does it look like i get rid of anything?).
The stamps were very expensive, but we hand delivered every invitation that we could, spending only $22.40.
So in total i spent about $58.40 on 70 invitations. I saved about
$313.50 by buying on sale or in bulk or making stuff myself. To have this done professionally, stamp and calligraphy and homemade and all, it was around $10 to $15 per invitation!! (I sent out 70.)
So it was a lot of work and planning, but definitely worth the savings!
since wedding planning is no longer part of my daily activities any more, I am designing and printing wedding invitations for others!

This is a typical heavily-worded and elaborate Vietnamese-American wedding invitation, which reflects the event itself. It is printed in both Vietnamese and English and includes a smaller invitation to the actual reception. Not only were there traditional Vietnamese ceremonies at the bride and groom's homes, the couple also held a traditional American wedding ceremony at the reception!
