Inspired by M.C.Escher I've flipped one of my previous uploads of the Tower of the Winds stair and upped the contrast and textures to give a nod towards his iconic artworks. Whereas his works featured endless Mobius loops mine feature stairs that go nowhere.......
I'd always wanted to get inside the Green Templeton College Tower of the Winds and luckily during last years Oxford Open Doors event I was able too. Oxford doesn't have that many spiral stairs surprisingly so it's always good to shoot a new one. I think particularly like shooting them with my 8mm Samyang fisheye.

From Wikipedia, "The Tower of the Winds is the prominent octagonal tower on top of the old Radcliffe Observatory building in Oxford, England. The building now forms a centrepiece for Green Templeton College, one of the colleges of Oxford University.
The tower is based on the ancient and smaller Tower of the Winds in Athens, Greece, built c.100–50BC by Andronicus of Cyrrhus for the purpose of measuring time. It is of octagonal stone construction, with eight relief images of Greek mythological wind gods at the top of each side of the tower, carved by John Bacon the Elder in 1792–4. The tower was completed by James Wyatt in 1794. On the top are Atlas and Hercules supporting a globe in white, also by John Bacon. The reliefs of the signs of the zodiac above the windows on the first floor are made of Coade stone by J. C. F. Rossi. Inside the tower, there are three main rooms on top of each other.
The Tower of the Winds is situated in prominent view just to the north of the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter (ROQ), an area for Oxford University departments including the Blavatnik School of Government, and south of Observatory Street, named after its former use as an observatory. To the south is the Mathematical Institute building and Somerville College, juxtaposing the new 21st-century architecture of the buildings with the old 17th-century style of the observatory. To the west is the Jericho Health Centre and beyond that Walton Street, with a view of the tower in the distance from the southern end looking north along the street. To the east are the Woodstock Road and the front entrance of Green Templeton College, with St Anne's College opposite."

On this, my second visit to Trevaylor Woods (Penzance), the light wasn't quite as nice as my first visit - devoid of any mist and more overcast / darker. But... I came away with this (while, crossing my fingers for better, "magical," conditions for future visits).
While wandering the woods I spotted these foreground moss-covered boulders (that looked like "rock trolls" to me!) basking in some diffused light. I then looked for a distant focal point - and used the gnarly tree, which stood out amongst the greenery.

website: www.azinasutiphotography.com At Nidelva's outlet there have been seaside stalls, breweries and warehouses all the way from the oldest times. Here the towners traded with goods from far and near.
At the time of King Sverres, the bridges were also used as defense works. Towards the river, screens and times were built. From here you could throw stones on the enemy. In Magnus Lagabøte's city council of 1276, it is stated that the swallow, a passageway outside the bridges, should not be wider than three ales; further that between the brews should be "droplet" distance. The brewery that is still preserved is located on both sides of Nidelva - in Kjøpmannsgata, in Bakklandet, in Fjordgata and Sandgata. The oldest preserved breweries are from the mid-18th century.

My technique is alway the same:
Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...
DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

Dodge and burn là où requis...

The Siege of Port Hudson occurred from May 21 to July 9, 1863, when Union Army troops assaulted and then surrounded the Mississippi River town of Port Hudson, Louisiana, during the American Civil War.
In cooperation with Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's offensive against Vicksburg, Mississippi, Union Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks' army of 40,000 Union soldiers moved against the Confederate stronghold at Port Hudson on the Mississippi River where 7,500 Confederates troops under the command of Maj. Gen. Franklin Gardner, CSA, a New Yorker by birth, awaited their assualt. On May 27, 1863, after their frontal assaults were repulsed, the Federals settled into a siege that lasted for 48 days. Banks renewed his assaults on June 14 but the defenders successfully repelled them. On July 9, 1863, after hearing of the fall of Vicksburg, the Confederate garrison of Port Hudson surrendered, ending the longest siege in American history and opening the Mississippi River to Union navigation from its source to New Orleans.

Info from their website:
Grenada Distillers Limited the island’s best-known and largest distillery and one of the most interesting historical sites. The factory has been in operation since 1937, and is situated in the southern part of the island, in the Parish of St George.
When you arrive you would be welcomed by one of our friendly and knowledgeable tour guides, who would explain our history and all the different processes and stages of making our fine rum. You would learn of the distilling process from sugar cane, syrup and molasses, to rum, and also the aging, blending and bottling processes of making rum. On tour you would also get the opportunity to discover old steam engines, some dating as far back as 1886.
The tour of the factory lasts about fifteen minutes, after which you would be escorted to our Hospitality Center, where you will see our unique Barrel Furniture and an interesting display of the Clarke’s Court products. Last but not least, you are invited to sample our award-winning rums at the sample bar. You would be given recipes on different ways you can mix our rum and truly appreciate the taste of our fine products.
I guess a rum distillery is a must for any visitor to the Caribbean.

Well if it isn't the lovely Jessica again! And she's now she has a new look, out with the red and in with the blonde and it looks great on her. Then again she looks breath taking regardless!
We originally were planning to meet up and shoot earlier last week but I had the cancel on her the night before. I managed to get sick the week before and the days just before our planned shoot it just got worse. I was hoping I'd get better but 1 week later my cold developed into the flu. At the moment I wasn't sure when our next chance to meet up would be, figured it wouldn't be until next month since I was (and currently am) going to be in Halifax for a week and my work schedule after that wasn't looking the greatest. So just before I was to leave for Halifax we managed to meet up for a little bit later in the evening after we both finished work. We spent around 3 hours walking around downtown Toronto shooting and its great working with Jessica because we always end up getting a lot of great shots. Got almost 20 keepers from the shoot and I'll slowly upload some of my favourites. I want to say this one might be my favourite from our little shoot and funny enough it was the first shots of the day too.

I am proud to announce that my website was voted as the best in Europe as well as the best in Spain for astrophotography.
www.astroshop.eu ran a competition called the Star of Europe awards, where they were looking for the best astrophotography website / blog in Europe.
As I don't know who voted for me, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank anyone for their votes as I can't do it in person.

More work from my website and a fair bit of of work involved in just 1 page...another huge learning curve but I've been checking out some of the better designers and having a look at what their doing!
Work in progress...I'll be changing some of the photo's in the gallery...
kinda appreciate why web designers charge what they do now!
