February 2020, Photo Tour to Kuusamo, Finland - image 5:

A curious Siberian Jay (Perisoreus infaustus) coming down to check out the new Zeiss Milvus 2.8/15... or maybe just interested to see if I had some food with me...

The Zeiss lens wasn't that easy to operate as I hoped mainly due to the manual focus, though for sure, given the poor light conditions, I could not have taken a better picture with my Canon equivalents. So, yes, I know that the bird, isn't pin sharp, but who cares... the crown of the tree certainly is.

Box of Chocolates, Part 3. Wide Field Astrophotography is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’ll get. The same photo on different nights can look very different. That’s one of the things I love about night photography. Here are 2 panoramas of The Mittens in Monument Valley, Utah, from roughly the same spot on different nights. There is wonderful green and red airglow on the left in the bottom photo, absent in the upper photo. I am continuing on my panorama binge, but this gives me a chance for a “two’fer”, 2 panos for the price of one (and they fit better on IG to boot). Top pano done with a 24 mm lens vertically, second photo done with a 35 mm lens vertically, each approximately 12-13 images combined in Lightroom. This lies within the Navajo Tribal Park and you need a guide to go there at night. If you are interested contact Majestic Monument Valley Tours and ask for Quanah. Hope you enjoy! Wayne

Part 2:

Wide Field Astrophotography is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’ll get. The same photo on different nights can look very different. That’s one of the things I love about night photography. Here are 2 panoramas of Castle Butte in Valley of the Gods, Utah, from roughly the same spot on different nights. The red airglow gives the second photo a different look. We were standing in slightly different spots on the 2 night. I usually set up to shoot about 20 meters off the road in this location, but as we walked up a rattlesnake slithered across the road into the brush where I would normally set up. This made the road, where you could see the ground around you, seem like a much bettter place to stand! I am continuing on by panorama binge, but this gives me a chance for a “two’fer”, 2 panos for the price of one. The top pano was done with a 24 mm lens vertically (the Milky Way was higher that night), lower pano was done with a 20 mm lens vertically, each approximately 12-13 vertical images combined in Lightroom. Hope you enjoy!

Bennett Classic Antiques Auto Museum

Website: www.bennettclassics.com

Bennett Classics Antique Auto Museum houses around 70 vehicles manufactured from 1913 to 2013. The museum was started in 2007 by brothers Buddy & Joe Bennett, whose uncle owned a Ford dealership in Burnsville, NC, when they were growing up, instilling in them a lifelong love of cars. They moved to Rutherford County in the late 1960s, where they both started successful businesses, and on the side started collecting cars. Over the years, their collection that was in storage grew, but it wasn't until their retirement, when they started sorting through the collection, that they realized they had a whole building full of unrestored, low mileage automobiles. It was then the idea of the museum was born. The museum won the National Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum Award in 2014, an honor based on the museum's involvement in community, its presentation of the antique car hobby, the preservation of the automobiles, and the educational efforts of the museum. The collection includes many types of automobiles, from Model Ts to Mack trucks, a Shelby Mustang, the retired Forest City American Lanfranc fire truck, and a 1963 Ford Mayberry sheriff's car signed by Don Knotts (A.K.A Barney Fife of the Andy Griffith TV show).

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is a sports car marketed in 2+2 coupe (1955–1974) and convertible (1957–1974) body styles by Volkswagen. The Karmann Ghia combined the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1 (Beetle) with styling by Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia and hand-built bodywork by the German coach-builder Karmann. The Karmann Ghia was internally designated the Typ 14. In 1961, Volkswagen introduced the Typ 34, a variant based on the newly introduced Type 3 platform and featuring angular bodywork. Production doubled soon after its introduction, becoming the car most imported into the U.S. More than 445,000 Karmann Ghias were produced in Germany over the car's production life, not including the Type 34 variant. Karmann Ghia Brazil produced 41,600 cars locally for South America between 1962 and 1975. American industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague included the Karmann Ghia in his list of the world's most beautifully designed products.
