The Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) is a butterfly found in and on the borders of woodland throughout much of Europe. In Northern and Eastern Europe where subspecies P. a. tircis occurs it is brown with pale yellow or cream spots and darker upper-wing eye-spots. In south western Europe the subspecies P. a. aegeria has a colour which is more orange in the background; the hind-wing underside eye-spots are reddish brown rather than black or dark grey. The two forms gradually inter-grade into each other. The speckled wood also occurs in North Africa and on the Atlantic island of Madeira. Molecular studies suggest that the African and Madeiran populations are closely related and distinct from European populations of both subspecies, suggesting that Madeira was colonized from Africa and that the African population has a long history of isolation from European populations.

Ilford Sprite 35-II - not sure about fantastic but definitely plastic !
It's an entry level plastic camera which is not designed to be repaired. 😂 Serial #210802
From Ilford websites:
Since inception in 1879, ILFORD has been a name associated with photography. Whilst the company has evolved over the years, the drive to provide our customers with world-class products is as strong as it was over 140 years ago.
--------
The Ilford Sprite 35-II a fun and affordable way to jump into analogue photography!
There are plenty of good reasons why some love the authentic look and feel of film-generated photographs; there’s also the discipline of having only 24 or 36 exposures to work with, and the anticipation of having a roll developed. Then there’s the desire to slow down from the relentless pace of digital technology and instant gratification
Back in the 1960s, few cameras were easier to use and more affordable than the Sprite 35. Forget shutter speeds, aperture, or light meters – just load a roll of film, hit the shutter button, and press the film lever. It was an attractive camera for people who wanted to capture a few snaps without fussing about the right settings.
The Ilford Sprite 35-II continues that heritage and will meet the needs of people experimenting with 35mm film and looking for a camera that’s ‘no frills’ simple. It’s a step up from disposable cameras, and being re-usable, it won’t create extra waste.
The camera has a fixed shutter speed (1/120s) with a 31mm, single element f9 fixed-focus wide-angle lens, perfect for capturing most well-focused daylight scenes, and also features a built-in flash with a 15-second recycle time for night time shooting.

Cityscape from Tower Bridge, London, England
This is a Cityscape from Tower Bridge that I took during Open House weekend last year. I couldn't get this right in post processing but now that I am getting into cityscapes a bit more I tackled this this with a fresh perspective.
I converted it into a 32bit HDR in Photomatix which really helped bring out the details within the image but didn't bring in the bad effects normally associated with HDR and I felt this worked well for this image. I don't feel this is as good image (in terms of technical composition and post processing) as my previous two uploads but this is because I feel that I have learnt alot since last year with cityscape compositions, I am really looking forward to my next outing with my camera and my LEE Big Stopper :-).
I am slowly editing and post processing my backlog of images all ready for uploading in the next couple of weeks. I am also planning a visit up to Yorkshire and plan on visiting some locations, one such is Ribblehead Viaduct, I am thinking that should be really good at sunset. Will keep you posted, if you have any locations up there I should visit let me know :-).

Information
The Shard, also referred to as the Shard of Glass Shard London Bridge and formerly London Bridge Tower is a 95-storey skyscraper in London. Its construction began in March 2009; it was topped out on 30 March 2012 and inaugurated on 5 July 2012. It opened to the public on 1 February 2013. Standing 309.6 metres (1,016 ft) high, the Shard is the tallest building in the European Union, and the second-tallest in Europe, after the Mercury City Tower in Moscow. The Shard is also the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom, after the concrete tower at the Emley Moor transmitting station.
The Shard replaced Southwark Towers, a 24-storey office block built on the site in Southwark in 1975. Renzo Piano, the Shard's architect, worked with the architectural firm Broadway Malyan during the planning stage. The glass-clad pyramidal tower has 72 habitable floors, with a viewing gallery and open-air observation deck – the UK's highest – on the 72nd floor, at a height of 245 metres (804 ft).

Photography has helped me overcome extreme arachnophobia. I started with crab spiders hiding in flowers and moved on. At first I had problems actually looking at my photos, but I persevered and I am amazed at how far I've come in a short time.
This is just as well, as someone added a picture of mine to their gallery and when I looked, there was Flori right next to a photo of a tarantula! A couple of years ago I would have had an extreme reaction :-) HBW!

Another reworking of an old shot of Paris...... it's a further 'twist' on my previous upload and another attempt to produce a 'different' shot of the cities most famous landmark.
I liked the way the Eiffel Tower is so small in the frame but due to it's form and placement within the frame it dominates the shot. I also liked the way the silhouettes of the trees echo the famous Paris landmark.

From Wikipedia, "The tower and its image have been in the public domain since 1993, 70 years after Eiffel's death. In June 1990 a French court ruled that a special lighting display on the tower in 1989 to mark the tower's 100th anniversary was an "original visual creation" protected by copyright. The Court of Cassation, France's judicial court of last resort, upheld the ruling in March 1992. The Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE) now considers any illumination of the tower to be a separate work of art that falls under copyright. As a result, the SNTE alleges that it is illegal to publish contemporary photographs of the lit tower at night without permission in France and some other countries for commercial use. For this reason, it is often rare to find images or videos of the lit tower at night on stock image sites, and media outlets rarely broadcast images or videos of it.
The imposition of copyright has been controversial. The Director of Documentation for what was then called the Société Nouvelle d'exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SNTE), Stéphane Dieu, commented in 2005: "It is really just a way to manage commercial use of the image, so that it isn't used in ways [of which] we don't approve". SNTE made over €1 million from copyright fees in 2002. However, it could also be used to restrict the publication of tourist photographs of the tower at night, as well as hindering non-profit and semi-commercial publication of images of the illuminated tower."

after having the same layout for 5 years I finally updated my website last week using Format. go check it out @ www.laurencephilomene.com/
From a website:
Devils Bridge
CONSTRUCTED BETWEEN 1515 AND 1518 in the early 16th century by a builder Dimitar from the nearby village of Nedelino, Dyavolski most, the Devil’s Bridge or also known in Turkish as “Sheytan Kyupriya”, is the most stunning of the humpbacked bridges that cross the Arda River in Bulgaria. It was built over a demolished Roman bridge and cuts from the steep slopes of the Rhodope Mountains along an ancient road linking the Aegean Sea and the Northern Thracian Valley (Gornotrakiiskata Nizina).
The bridge is located near the town of Ardino, which even has a water fountain shaped like the bridge. Its span is 185 feet long, 11.5 feet wide, and at its gravity-defying central arch stands 37.7 feet high. Interior semi-circular arches were built in to monitor the water level.
The reason some locals are hesitant to cross at night is rooted in dark lore. One story is that the head builder’s wife passed away during construction, so her shadow was encased in the structure. Another tale has it that the devil’s footprint can be found somewhere on the rocks. While this is all folkloric myth, its towering form does make for a somewhat unsettling vista in the darkness.
