It has been a while since I photographed frogs and had forgotten how wet you can get. With 6°C, and just a thin fleece, I got pretty cold within no time and had to stop my frog pursuit... I will return. In this particular pond in the middle of an old forest I just saw these Common Frogs (Rana temporaria) (and pretty happy with that), but hope to find a few Moor Frogs soon as well.

30/5/10: Nominee in Nature, 4th Photography Masters Cup

UPDATE: On Feb 14th, the next day I uploaded this photo, I noticed that it appeared on the explore top-20, so I replaced it with a square version (just added some black padding) that enabled it to appear on the explore frontpage. Talk about blatant self-promotion ;-)

I reverted to the original a day later. Made it as high as #9. Thank you all for appreciating my work and making this happen!

Thank you all for your comments on my new lens. Thank you also for your advice on the ISO settings. You have all made points that are true, but bear in mind that there are always exceptions to the rules. To make this clear, let me demonstrate a case where I used a high ISO, then tell me what you think.

As I told you, Sunday was very gloomy. It kept raining all day long and I only got out during short rain breaks :-) Taking this shot was difficult because the light was very little. But I DID like this natural light and all the shadows and textures it produced, so I was reluctant to use a fill flash. I felt it would light places I didn't want to light... I didn't want to mess with the picture I saw through the viewfinder. Using a tripod was no option either because the wind kept moving the flowers ever so lightly, not enough to shake off the raindrops, but enough to spoil a long exposure... The only remedy, since I didn't want to use the flash, was a high ISO. A setting of 800 allowed me a speed of 1/100 and even at that speed, I only managed 2 sharp shots out of 7.

PS. When I'm talking about "flash", I'm refering to the on-board one. Don't tell me I have to get a super-duper flash unit, because I'm still recovering from the 1,500 euros I have paid for the camera and lenses :-) I will do so in the future, but not right now...

The temple ruins of the temple dedicated to Apollo, god of light, art and beauty. The temple measures 17x30 m and has columns with Corinthian capitals, 8,90 m high. And were made during the Roman Civilization that is in front of the sea viewing the historical trade point harbor.

The temple of Apollo is also surrounded by other important ruins that date back to 7th century B.C. Side was one of the main cities of the ancient region known as Pamphylia that later became Antalya.

One of the best times to walk around the ruins is at the end of the day when hopefully you can catch the sun setting behind the Apollo Temple and at night the ruins are illuminated. The temple was apparently given as a token of Anthony’s love to Cleopatra.

February 2020, Photo Tour to Kuusamo, Finland - image 5:

A curious Siberian Jay (Perisoreus infaustus) coming down to check out the new Zeiss Milvus 2.8/15... or maybe just interested to see if I had some food with me...

The Zeiss lens wasn't that easy to operate as I hoped mainly due to the manual focus, though for sure, given the poor light conditions, I could not have taken a better picture with my Canon equivalents. So, yes, I know that the bird, isn't pin sharp, but who cares... the crown of the tree certainly is.

Bennett Classic Antiques Auto Museum

Website: www.bennettclassics.com

Bennett Classics Antique Auto Museum houses around 70 vehicles manufactured from 1913 to 2013. The museum was started in 2007 by brothers Buddy & Joe Bennett, whose uncle owned a Ford dealership in Burnsville, NC, when they were growing up, instilling in them a lifelong love of cars. They moved to Rutherford County in the late 1960s, where they both started successful businesses, and on the side started collecting cars. Over the years, their collection that was in storage grew, but it wasn't until their retirement, when they started sorting through the collection, that they realized they had a whole building full of unrestored, low mileage automobiles. It was then the idea of the museum was born. The museum won the National Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum Award in 2014, an honor based on the museum's involvement in community, its presentation of the antique car hobby, the preservation of the automobiles, and the educational efforts of the museum. The collection includes many types of automobiles, from Model Ts to Mack trucks, a Shelby Mustang, the retired Forest City American Lanfranc fire truck, and a 1963 Ford Mayberry sheriff's car signed by Don Knotts (A.K.A Barney Fife of the Andy Griffith TV show).

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is a sports car marketed in 2+2 coupe (1955–1974) and convertible (1957–1974) body styles by Volkswagen. The Karmann Ghia combined the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1 (Beetle) with styling by Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia and hand-built bodywork by the German coach-builder Karmann. The Karmann Ghia was internally designated the Typ 14. In 1961, Volkswagen introduced the Typ 34, a variant based on the newly introduced Type 3 platform and featuring angular bodywork. Production doubled soon after its introduction, becoming the car most imported into the U.S. More than 445,000 Karmann Ghias were produced in Germany over the car's production life, not including the Type 34 variant. Karmann Ghia Brazil produced 41,600 cars locally for South America between 1962 and 1975. American industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague included the Karmann Ghia in his list of the world's most beautifully designed products.
