The training covered the recent ABUS IP camera systems for professional applications as well as the basic configuration via web interface.
This screen normally displays bus timing information. It was early in the morning, and something had gone wrong. Nice to know what powers their systems though.

The piece of paper attached to the window on the far side of this office is locked behind a door securing one of hundreds of vacant, finished-with spaces in BBC Television.
It didn't always used to be locked. Five years ago it was used as an edit suite and test room. Various bits of kit - computer, video and audio - used to test games, user authentication and web page compatibility. A plywood bench was secured to the outer wall underneath the window and above the radiator. The 'Adventure Rock' server was on the left, the test PC on the right.
'Adventure Rock' was the name of a downloadable adventure game children could play on their home PCs, part of the functionality of which offered users the opportunity to draw pictures and upload them back up to the BBC webservers to feature in an online gallery and even in a TV programme of the same name, if it got made.
The game was the first major project I worked on at the BBC, this sign a potent reminder of my first job based inside Television Centre. The day I started was the same day the then Director-General Mark Thompson announced the phased departure of Television Centre.
Five years ago, the notion of moving out of the BBC's iconic home felt like a mean trick played on a naive lovestruck employee. Wandering around the vacated tower today, the feeling couldn't be anymore different.

An old entry on my weblog is in the process of getting Farked. My usual daily load is ~1700 visitors...yesterday I got 21,924, today I'm at 24,808 and counting. Yikes!
I needed to install web services onto our FreeBSD UNIX based secondary webserver w/ SSL security, spam filtering, webmail and all the bells and whistles. It can be a long process. Luckily I've done this a time or two or thirty.
The ssh_login module is quite versatile in that it can not only test a set of credentials across a range of IP addresses, but it can also perform brute-force login attempts. This module will test ssh logins on a range of machines and report successful logins.

I'm setting up a "new" webserver, using FreeBSD 8.0 and installing it on an old P3, 550 Mhz Gateway. It's going to be used as a secondary FTP/Web server for the company as well as a staging platform for a new website I'm going to build. Yeah, not a powerhouse, but at least I found an 80G hard drive I could use. I gave it the name "SpareParts" because that's pretty much what it is.
The computer sitting on the desk in the background is also a UNIX based web server, but its not full service; it just has Apache, ProFTP, and maybe PHP 5.
This one is going to be designed to be a little more fully functional. Quite honestly, at this point, I'm going to have to remember everything I need to do. I tend to forget stuff until I need it. There's a lot of little libraries that always show their ugly faces as I'm installing CMS's and stuff.

The videocam currently requires Internet Explorer to watch, and is mounted in the corner of our kitchen with a wide-angle lens to give a view of most of our kitchen. We installed this videocam so we can keep an eye on our Shetland Sheepdog, Kiyomi, no matter where we are.
