...and only 404,449.48 km from Earth.

Because the moon’s orbit is not perfectly circular, this year’s farthest apogee happens on 31st October at 406,662 km and the closest perigee will be on November 14th when it will be just 356,509 km away.

Day 241

I've been wanting to wax my car for a few months but there never seemed to be the time. Today I had the time and did it!! It sure feels good :-)

This is an entry for the Trading Places category of Brickscalibur and the Old but Gold category of the current Guilds of Historica challenge. It is a revamp of the candlemaker’s shop I built back in 2014. It features a full interior and uses the floating cobblestone technique we have previouslyshared a tutorial on.

Glorfindel and Eryl continued on their journey after stopping at the Wayfarer’s Den, eventually coming to Hradheim. There Glorfindel was able to visit his old friend, Kenan, who owns the candle shop Wax and Wick. It sits in the shopping district of Hradheim which is always bustling with folks going about various errands or hawking their wares. Some sweet treats purchased from a baker’s stall nearby were just the thing to provide energy for another day’s travel.

The waxing gibbous Flower Moon (90% full) rose over...

Decatur, Georgia, USA.

â–¶ I took this shot just in case I miss the lunar eclipse of the full Flower Moon 'supermoon' on 26 May 2021.

Unfortunately, I probably will miss it. [And, miss it, I did.]

Here, on the U.S. east coast, the lunar eclipse will only be a partial one, occurring at 7:33 am EDT, an hour after sunrise, as the moon sets low over the horizon. My astro-geek brethren on the west coast will have much better luck —a total lunar eclipse and well before sunrise— weather permitting. Totality varies worldwide.

â–¶ Photographer's note:

I zoomed in to 150 mm to get a closer-up image of the moon and superimposed that on a pulled-back (66 mm) view to frame it among the few clouds.

The moon was high up in a crystal clear sky a few minutes ago when I shot this, handheld, from my patio.

I’ll catch up with all you Flickr friends tomorrow.

The Waxing Gibbous Moon viewed from Ayrshire, Scotland on 22/01/2021

I was trying to get the nice halo around the moon tonight, but no luck. This will do, though.

Just 3 days old, thrilled with the detail we captured on this shot!

Gorgeous Moon tonight! If you have clear skies, just look up!

Sometimes a bit of spit and polish just doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference.

It's a lovely clear night, (if a little chilly), and since we are still in lockdown & there's nowhere to go, I thought I'd have a crack at tonight's waxing moon.

Hope you like it.

I spent a fairly frustrating day yesterday trying to transfer this photo onto fabric. I read something online and thought that I could figure it out. NOT. Anyway, I made a digital copy of a polaroid, and then as I got it wet and tried to transfer it, I ended up liking how blurred it got. In the end I poured hot wax on it. It looks way cooler in person. I may have to work on this technique a little more in the future.

A bright Waxing Gibbous moon over the Isle of Man, two days before Full Moon.

This is my first photo of 2016! A cold/'flu combined with foul weather have seen my camera semi-retired for the last three weeks, but this was impossible to resist.

A Waxing Crescent is the first Phase after the New Moon and is a great time to see the features of the moon's surface. During this phase, the Moon can be seen in the western sky after the sun dips below the horizon at sunset.
