Between this and another large brush pile nearby, I saw a couple of watersnake and probably a dozen Cottonmouth...all trying to dry out in the flooded swamp.
found close to 25 of these snakes each day i was out in the park. some major differences in patterns, and some amazing colors and patterns.

2018 04 27 – A Northern water snake (Nerodia sipedon) soaks in the little sun that was out that day at the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area. As an ectotherm (cold blooded) it relies on the sun to provide heat for metabolism.
Northern watersnakes were chillin' in the beaver den. I wondered what the beavers thought about their roommates.
