In this swale we book ended the low spot with culverts and used sheet drains to lead into the culverts from both approaches. We considered installing a drain and culvert along the flat area, but decided that we lacked enough slope to easily move water through the flat area. We chose to completely harden the area instead using native rock, then geotextile and finally capped with 3/4 minus gravel.

Coyote Wall Trails (Columbia River Gorge) - Little Maui Trail Reroute and Restoration - National Trails Day Work party. Funded by a grant from the National Forest Foundation
A solo (most of them are) outing of the Dawn Patrol. I was hoping the "partly cloudy" forecast would translate to a beautiful sunrise. Unfortunately you can't "plan" these things, just happen to be in the right place at the right time (getting up early helps with the sunrises). Early winter sunrises aren't that spectacular from Rattlesnake Ledge due to the position of the sun. I ran up to the short cut and then hiked up to the ledges.
