NEW ROAD AYOUT AHEAD IN BELFAST CITY
Looking at this sign in detail it would appear that whoever created it made an error … there is no indication that the “L” was removed after the manufacture of the sign.
This interesting artefact was on the sea wall at Dawlish and this photograph was taken on 3rd September 1979.
It was huge and appears to have been fabricated rather than cast, so if the guy who made it was paid by the letter, he could well have retired after he'd finished it!
Several bits are missing, but it seems to be banging on about not removing any of the beach near the railway. I can't imagine too many parents directing their children to it prior to building any sandcastles...
Geotagging is approximate because I can't remember exactly where it was situated.

SIGN OF THE TIMES
.
At time it seems this world is rough, and obstacles seem oh so tough
As people tell us what to do, where to walk and what to view
Orders barked from all directions, make your choice and then reject them
Sign posts screaming 'Look at me', we're bullied, warned and never free
Don't stop, keep off, not welcome here, make deliveries at the rear
We're closed, keep out, don't climb on rocks, life's a battle, take the knocks
No entry, U-turns or alighting, ban the bomb, let's end the fighting
Placards held in angry hands of creeds and colours many lands
Signs they feature in our days in many guises, many ways
Special offers, three for two, add men get their hooks in you
Motorways will drive you mad, signs in thousands, eyes gone bad
Ambulance signs backwards facing, flashing lights and your heart racing
No entry pal, not welcome here, sorry closed, we're out of beer
One per person, stay in line, delays expected all the time
This till closed, hey I'm at lunch, my blood boiling, let me punch
The spotty youth, the ginger cute kid, wearing badge sayin', 'I'm with stupid'
Your names not on the list my son, can't come in, there'll be no fun
'Jesus loves you' neon bright, 'The end is nigh' on Tee shirts trite
Stop, give way, you got the blues, billboards flash the daily news
Big Mac's half price, shares are up, closing down come try your luck
Travel agents exchange rates that show your country's in a state
Mucky girls in phone booth porn, 'Accept the Lord', you'll be reborn
Signs galore, my head is spinning, place a bet, collect your winnings
Later pay for what you buy now, catch that boat and milk the cash cow
Neon signs that light up Blackpool, warning red ones so delightful
Hazchem, bomb squad, signs for shops, green for go and blue for cops
My eyes are bleeding, head exploding, will to live now self imploding
Can't we have an open space without a signpost in our face?
Danger, warning, ice is thin, the lake is frozen, where you been?
Bridge unsafe and rocks might fall, keep left, keep right, I'm sick of all
The signs that warn me not to do, not to think and not to view
I'm governed, herded, just like sheep, my brains in meltdown, thoughts can't keep
I have the urge to make a stand and have the blasted sign posts banned
I'll make a U turn, not slow down, I'll use my air brakes, make them frown
I'll walk on grass and climb on rocks, accept the consequences, knocks
A rebel through and through I am, the inner youth in this old man
Stuff your orders, stick your signs, leave me be, what's yours is mine
I'm gonna speed and whoop with joy, shedding skin to inner boy
I've had enough of sign post hell, I'm fighting back as you can tell
Big brother isn't watching me, I'm liberated, cleansed and free

Looking north at the Bass Strait. CAUTION!
Below and next to this sign children were busily cutting the heads off the fish they had caught. They were jumping with un-nerving joy.

This shot was taken with the telephoto lens from the closed boat dock. It shows the water side of the dam and the warning for boaters to stay clear from getting too close to the dam.
This is the standard shape of the warning traffic-sign "Children" in Romania. The two oulines are drawn in a strange combination of abstratization and realistic detail. The boy is leading the girl; he carries a briefcase, she carries a purse. The boy is wearing short pants, the girl is wearing a mini-skirt. The girl has a pony tail and a knotted ribbon. (This example is from Bucharest, Câmpia Libertăţii street.)

This picture was shot on a tripod with three exposures (-2..0..+2EV). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tone mapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. High Pass Sharpening.
Like I will heed the warnings! Presented in full HDR!

not content with the old general graphical representation of a motorbike, the council have gone to town on this one. You can just imagine the conversation with the boys in blue. "'Allo allo allo whats going on 'ere then, theres no motorcycles allowed here sonny". "well actually it's a quad" says the pimply youth. "er yes you're right son, the sign definitely shows a 1950s Velocette so off you go"
This sign has presumably been designed to stop the use of minimotos quads AND bikes. The level of detail is totally OTT - it's even got trail tyres on! Good to see the Council tax is being spent wisely. Why keep a school open when you can spend the money on artistic warning signs?
I took a walk through The Park in Nottingham on 23rd July 2011 and this is the Crossroads sign on Tunnel Road. The Park is not only the last place in Nottingham where the streets are still lit by gas lights, but the road signs are in a time-warp as well. Unfortunately, they cannot really be categorised as pre-Worboys or post-Worboys, as they exhibit features from both eras. In this case, we have a post-Worboys Crossroads sign mounted on a striped post. Nonetheless, I felt it was worthy of record, particularly as it is mounted upside down. I have a feeling that these signs have been purchased secondhand for use on the private roads. I only wish I had photographed those they replaced.

Another example of hand-drawn traffic sign. This example is from Moeciu Pământeni, in Prahova County. Note the curious shape of the girl's pony tail -- I think that the artist wanted to draw a knotted ribbon at the end of the pony tail. The young woman looks determined, while the man is rather confused and lets himself be lead away by his spirited companion.
