This is a male sand lizard. I went to the spot where I had photographed a female sand lizard about 3 weeks ago and there he was, warming up in the sunshine on an old tree trunk. Due to his bright green colour he was much easier to see than the better camouflaged female.
Found this Gentleman Harpist warming up in the early hours at the (empty) Cades Cove Pioneer Baptist Church, in the Smoky Mountains National Park.
Evidently he plays at other venues in the park throughout the day, because I came across him later in the afternoon at another location in the park. Looks like he enjoys playing as much as I enjoyed his music.

A campfire always has its own magic. You can stare in for hours, watch the flames and think for a while. Or you can roast bread and marshmallows ...
Warm-up your winter day with this photo of the fishing pier on the east side of Big Creek Lake taken just before sunset last summer. Construction started in autumn of 2023 and it opened in the spring of 2024. A moment in time, showing people enjoying summer splendor at it’s best.
Developed with Darktable 4.8.0.
No glowsticks were harmed during the capture of this picture.
