The city skyline comes into view as we pass Wapping.

Situated on the north bank of the Thames it has a great maritime history and is the site of Execution Dock where pirates and other waterborne criminals met there fate. Hung from a gibbet constructed close to the low tide mark their bodies would be left dangling until it had been submerged three times by the tide

The waterways of Wapping; they were presumably used for docking ships or somesuch. (Very small ships in the case of this one, I'd imagine.)
