Going underground with Dean + Ronni + Co

A very nice cave with thousands of glowworms, look like blue stars. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures inside the cave.

Me, Jamie from Halifax, Nova Scotia and two Danish guys about to embark on our black-water rafting expedition through the Ruakuri caves at Waitomo, featuring a 100ft abseil, pitch-black flying fox (zipline death slide), rafting on truck tyre inner tubes, glorious constellations of glowworm colonies, swimming, crawling, jumping off and climbing underground waterfalls and other such fun :)

Some amazing cave formations in this cave! Too bad it is so dark - my camera doesn't do too well.

Our informative and hilarious guide shows off the glowworm snares in the Ruakuri Cave at Waitomo.

The underground caves have elaborate stalactites, stalagmites, and incrustations, some of which are named (e.g., Bride’s Jewels, Organ, White Terrace, Blanket Chamber). The main attraction was a boat journey along the underground river that took us through a Glow-worm Grotto, lit by countless glowworms. Magical

This is the exit point for the trip down into the main cave at Waitomo Caves. We walked down into the cave and then got into a tinnie and rode along the underground river looking up at the hundreds of thousands of glow worms on the ceiling of the cave. It was just amazing. Another must-do activity in New Zealand.
