I photographed this pretty little Western Wood Pewee at the Ridgefield NWR on Aug. 23, 2010. They love to perch on bare branches so they have better access to spotting and catching flying insects. I've included a 2nd shot that I believe is the same bird as in the first shot.

NS's 398 train takes the siding at W E Siding on the "new" bypass on the south side of Springfield. A nice overpass on MacArthur Blvd provides the elevation as the clouds rolled in to diffuse the light. I-72 is off to the left.

When I was a child, my favourite letter was "W".
Woodwards was once a large department store chain in western Canada that originated in Vancouver. Its flagship store was once the core of the city; however, by the time of the chain’s demise, the financial and commercial core had shifted west, leaving the Woodwards building on the fringe of skid row. Atop the building was this iconic "W", which was a notable and dominating landmark on the Vancouver skyline. After Woodwards went bankrupt, the building sat abandoned and deteriorating, with its future in limbo. Recently, the building was largely razed and what was left was renovated, added onto, and converted to condos. A replica of the original "W" was placed atop the posh and trendy new condo, as the original was too badly deterioriated. Unfortunately, the new tower isn't on the highest part, so it does not stand out in the skyline as it did before. The original "W", seen here, sits in a small courtyard in the condominium complex.
This series will chronicle the construction of the new interstate bridge carrying highways MN 43/WI 54 across the Mississippi river between Winona, Minnesota and Buffalo County, Wisconsin. The project began in July 2014 with plans to build a new bridge next to the existing (circa 1941) span, which will remain in use after completion.
April 5th, 2015: It's the eleventh hour for the vacated homes and businesses to be removed from the three square block area west of the bridge. Final preparation is evident the day before demolition is scheduled to begin.
2024 Valle san Floriano
