NS's 398 train takes the siding at W E Siding on the "new" bypass on the south side of Springfield. A nice overpass on MacArthur Blvd provides the elevation as the clouds rolled in to diffuse the light. I-72 is off to the left.

This series will chronicle the construction of the new interstate bridge carrying highways MN 43/WI 54 across the Mississippi river between Winona, Minnesota and Buffalo County, Wisconsin. The project began in July 2014 with plans to build a new bridge next to the existing (circa 1941) span, which will remain in use after completion.
April 5th, 2015: It's the eleventh hour for the vacated homes and businesses to be removed from the three square block area west of the bridge. Final preparation is evident the day before demolition is scheduled to begin.
Well there you have it, two of these creatures. Which one do you like best? Vote with a favorite. :-)

He's so handsome. Passport photo of John W. Cain son of A D Cain working at the Midland Flour Milling company, 630 New York Life building, Kansas City, Mo. He is my grandfather's first cousin and married to Amelia Earhart's first cousin, Annie Otis. He and Annie Otis Cain came to mom's wedding.
Family stories can have a way of being "fuzzy" and not quite true in the way that you think, but pointing to the truth often. There was a story that Amelia Earhart played across the alley with my granddad. Amelia lived a little ways away, so it makes me wonder if Annie lived near grandad or his cousin and Amelia would come over to play. I have not tracked down the census form for the Otis' family, so I don't know for sure. Grandpa was about 15 years older than Amelia.
