I only had one image of this building. The sky was slightly over-exposed and the building was slightly under-exposed. So I made some adjustments and combined them in Photomatix.
Then I took the original, did a B&W gradient map, adjusted the curves to improve contrast, and then overlayed it on the tonemapped image
i am considering re-starting a 365...but i might wait till i can buy a t1i so i can use a remote, unless somebody has any ideas of how to auto focus a 50mm with out being near the camera...so any ideas would be awesome!

W Tower or "West Cumbo" once stood a few miles west of Martinsburg WVA where the B&O's Low Grade line joined the Cumberland Subdivision mainline. W controlled the interlocking up until the end of June 2000 when the B&O's successsor CSX Transportation retired it in favor of a new remote controlled interlocking with Safetrans signalling operated by the dispatcher in Jacksonville FL. The tower was demolished within days of it'a closing. This photo (slide) was taken during it's final week of operation in late June of 2000 during a lull in traffic.
N&W 98419 was one of about 1000 such gondolas built by the N&W at Roanoke over a few different lots in the mid to late 1960s given class G12. The cars are very similar to BSC constructed cars owned by fellow RRs B&O and C&O. Some series were built with wooden floors such as this car, while others had steel floors. Some were equipped with cradles and covers for coil steel service among others. This car was photographed at Bellvue yard on November 17th 1985 by John C Benson. JL Sessa collection.
G&W 50, the ugliest unit on the G&W system roster, leads a train down the old DL&W at Pioneer Road just North of Groveland Station, NY on November 13, 2017. I just stumbled upon this train on my way to get feed, and since trains to Dansville are not something I usually catch, I had to chase it down to Dansville in spite of the power.
Bracken doesn't get the appreciate it deserves in British countryside, as it often dominates habitats and requires a lot of management, but I can't help but love it. Not only is it a hardy plant, even growing after intense fires, but it provides a home and shelter for many ground nesting birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. Here's a perfect example after a huge mountain fire, exploiting that extra light, it emerges to re-green the land.
Another useless reflection. I initially liked the depth of the reflection inside the building with the "Grande Arche" at the extremity. Then with some crop in PP the W showed-up.

G&W 45 & 46 work the yard at the old salt mine in Retsof, NY on November 15, 1994. There are still a few tracks left, but almost everything is gone at this location now. The newer, active mine, is located a few miles South of this location, accessed by the trains looping around over to the old DL&W main and down to Mount Morris, then running on track that was laid when the new mine was built.
G&W 50 leads the turn job to Dansville back North at Groveland Station, NY on November 13, 2017. The connection from the DL&W main to the Dansville & Mt. Morris is literally just a switch in the woods. It is a considerable distance back here from the main road. The old DL&W main tails off into the brush on the left. The train is about to gain the DL&W main, swinging around what was once the North leg of the wye connecting the DMM to the DL&W.
When I first got here I was taken aback by the sheer beauty, the perfect reflections on the mirror-like surface of the lake , the grandeur of the snow sprinkled mountains - and so I set about to capture and portray that in "I stand alone".
However, this tree, which I know has been captured by so many photographers, deserved to be made the centre of attention for a moment.
For that reason alone, I chose to shoot in this orientation and knew it would be a B&W edit so that the environment didn't distract from the shape & form of the tree's silhouette.
