144 feet high. 217 internal steps, paid for by the citizens of Norfolk. This site was chosen because in the early 1800s it was the centre of military and naval activity in Great Yarmouth. It was completed in 1819 (24 years before London's Nelson's Monument.) It was designed by Norfolk born William Wilkins who later designed the National Gallery in London.
