This is the inaugural year for this contest which is sponsored by the Hawaii State Bar Association's Civic Education Committee, the Hawaii State Bar Foundation, in conjunction with the Hawaii Department of Education.

This year’s theme “2014 American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Every Vote Matters” is also the theme for the HSBA’s 2014 Law Day.

The calendar contest is the "kick-off" of a renewed effort on the part of the Hawaii Department of Education to bring awareness to the importance of exercising our civic responsibilities by registering to vote and voting.

Description: Millions of people across the United States are opting to vote early in the US presidential elections. The official election day will be on November 5th, but 47 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.) allow voters to vote by mail or go to an early voting booth to cast their ballot.

On the ballot this year are Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz for the Democrats, and Donald Trump with his running mate JD Vance for the Republican party.

Voters in New York City lined up at early polling stations on October 26th, 2024. As of 3:18 PM EST on the 26th, a total of 38,610,953 early votes had been cast, according to the University of Florida's Election Lab. According to the Census Bureau, in the 2020 presidential election, 155 million people turned out to vote — that’s around 66.8% of eligible voters in the US. It’s too early to say what voter turnout for the 2024 election will be.

The county had a vote last week on extending the one cent sales tax to pay for capital improvements to the city. It passed, but the voter turnout was incredibly low. The pollworkers in the background had seen about 10 people in three hours.

Voting should always be easy but in NC they are making it as difficult as possible. Election boards targeted areas of high Democratic voter turnout like college campuses and African-American neighborhoods in cutting places to vote.
