Lace Hill in Yerevan, Armenia by Forrest Fulton Architecture for International Business Center competition

Lace Hill stitches the adjacent city and landscape together to support a holistic, ultra-green lifestyle, somewhere between rural hillside living and dense cultured urbanity. The 85,000 square meter (900,000 sf) proposal is a new model of development for Yerevan and Armenia that supports a resilient, high-value spatial fabric, dense with overlapping natural and urban phenomenon.

TABLE LAMP XX BUTTERFLY

Nature and math is an ocen of inspiration. The organic pattern contains three structures (plus butterflies main lines) and each of them is based upon Voronoi diagram – one of those mathematical oddities (like fractals) that turns up frequently in the world of nature.

The head of the lamp is made of Senegalese gourd. Its diameters are 27 and 23cm.

Thickness of the gourd is about 1cm so the structure is quite deep and it is carved on three different depth levels.

Height of the whole lamp is 48cm.

The diameter of the base is 28cm and it is finished with dark brown jeweler waxed string.

The end of the base is carved from wood.

On the top of the lamp is closing part locked with little magnets.

7 algorithms were used to create generative butterfly wing patterns. Some were done with Processing, some were done with C++, all were challenging in their own ways. Represented are angular voronoi, B-spline voronoi, circle packing, intersecting lines, flow lines, flow circles, and B-spline cracking. This is part of a Barbarian Group installation for the McLeod Residence.

We can create Voronoi polygons using the module Compute Voronoi Polygons,

In this example, we use this process to divide a geographic area into sub-areas of activity, based on the density of activity points. This type of visualization is useful for evaluating the location-based activity of an entity through its the distribution of coverage and influence.

Stipples are too tiny and faded (their size is small, and they come in shades of gray instead of full black)

I have crocheted around each stone or pebble with a unique one of a kind pattern.

The stone/pebble has the most say on how a piece looks due to the special tensions around the form.

Palm's did a fantastic render (click here) that i tried to automate but just cannot. lol

Regardless, I did figure out a better way to create masks for Voronoi Stippler. :)

It's the Monkey Hustle Art Show, check the facebook invite here.

This work is based on drawings that can be seen at the Baker Artist Award site here (only three days left to nominate yourself over there, btw).
