It's my 'Voodoo' hybrid tea-rose.
Growing here in the Hills District of Sydney.
Winter time, June 2024.
Rosa 'Voodoo' is a fragrant hybrid tea rose cultivar, bred by Jack Christensen in 1984. The rose variety was created from the stock parents: 'Camelot' (a grandiflora) and 'Lolita' (a hybrid-tea-rose) and 'Voodoo' was named an All-America Rose Selections winner in 1986.

From 1983, Canadian Armed Forces CF-101 Voodoos at the CFB Comox Airshow. The Voodoos were in service from 1961 to 1984.

As with last week's "Shoelace" theme (for which I tried a few photos), I kind of trapped myself with "Zip Pull" at first, too. I thought "Make it look mysterious, add bokeh", and I was lost. Zippers (just like a blurry shoelace extending into the background) create fantastic bokeh shapes, but halfway through trying a few things, I thought, "Wait a minute, it's not about the zipper, it's about its pull".
An early idea was to photograph the zip pull of my old and trusty (and small) "Crumpler light Delight 300" camera holster because it has that cute guy on it. Well, is it a guy? It might be a girl as well (so I discarded my first movie title idea of "Little Big Man" and picked some good music instead). I tried to photograph his/her reflection in another, very shiny zip pull (including that zipper's bokeh), and it all went in the wrong direction.
So today (and as not to skip again), I gave it a last try. The idea was to stick to my first idea, the funny Crumpler person, move away from "mysterious" and "bokeh", and do something simple and straightforward. Since the zip pull is black and the mascot logo white, I picked a black background and backlit the scene (so the puller would be visible as an outline), partly with natural light from the window, partly with a handheld flashlight.
For a simple setup, I placed the small pouch on my Laowa lens (it was within reach, had the right height, and had enough "seating" space so the pouch wouldn't fall, and the zip pull could dangle evenly from it). The colour reflections on the left actually are from the lens, so in post, I isolated the subject and darkened the background, because a little bit of the lens had always been in the scene. Which was unnecessary, because the square crop I finally settled on removed the lens part anyway ;)
P.S. No stacking, F/5.6 provided enough sharpness for a single image, I think.
