VOID explores the quality of emptiness from which the Ankoku Butoh dance is generated. Evoked through this emptiness is the contradictory nature of the Ostrich bird in it's desert landscape. A Bird with dark red meat, a symbol of water that survives in arid landscapes, a bird with wings that cannot fly.

If our souls were the windows of civilisation, what would they reveal? In VOID, choreographer Boi Sakti confronts the moral decay and hypocrisy engulfing society and calls into question the very meaning of ‘civilisation’. The soul is wounded. Conscience has fallen into a black hole. Principle and reason have given way to greed and falsities. There is a tragic loss of humanity despite claims of greater openness in a civilised world. This affecting and insightful work examines these distortions and seeks to contextualise them. The world premiere is performed by T.H.E Dance Company led by artistic director Kuik Swee Boon, and features award-winning sound designer Darren Ng. At once powerful and poetic, VOID throws the windows wide open and compels you to face what is really there.

"The Void". Underneath the TSD building.
It always sent a shudder down my spine - there was a single light in a very large and dark space.
The cabinet on the left side held the network patch panels and routers, I had to come here often unfortunately.

Ship: Void Fletcher
Class: Precision Serriform Interceptor
Pilot: Alysha Marotto

Detail of inside the cockpit. I had to position the pilot on the front studs of the sarcophagus so I had to build the controls off her legs.

Alysha Marotto, ace pilot of the System Perimeter Defense Force - a branch of the Interstellar Republic of Corzibar Navy focused on defending the Republic’s homeworlds - and her PSI class ship the Void Fletcher.
The PSI (Precision Serriform Interceptor) class is a recent addition to the IRC Navy, the Void Fletcher being only the second to enter service. Armed only with a pair of twin plasma cannons and tri-phasers, it isn’t a heavy hitter, but its high maneuverability and speed allow it to play an important role in defense.

A array of triangles is placed on the floor, each one has a LED strip on the back which are connected to an Arduino. On MAX, series of random numbers generators and different probabilities trigger a signal to each triangle, making it turn on or off. Max communicates with the Arduino through Maxuino.
At the same time that a triangle is triggered a MIDI message is sent to Ableton Live and plays notes on a MIDI Instrument and an OSC message is sent to Processing for the Visual output.
Following versions will explore new possibilities as different shapes and materials, and interactions with the visitors through sensors.
