HEHEHEHE

The Trappist Monks at St. Joseph's Abbey live a contemplative life of prayer and work. The founders of the Trappists described themselves as pulchritudinis studium habentes—that is, those intent on beauty, the beauty of holiness, the beauty of God.

On Friday, March 18, sophomores from all Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Saginaw took part in Vocations Day at the Center for Ministry in Saginaw. Students learned about what it means to be called by God and how to best hear and respond to his call. Those in attendance learned about various vocations, including generous single life, the priesthood, religious life and marriage. There were numerous speakers, including a married couple, an engaged couple, priests, religious sisters and more in attendance. The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, participated in the day and celebrated Mass. During his homily, Bishop Cistone encouraged the young people to be open to God’s will in their lives.

aka Dravo House

Louisville/Jeffersontown, Jefferson County, KY

Listed: 05/30/1990

The Diamond Fruit Farm (hereinafter referred to as Dravo) is significant at the local level under Criterion A as an active and well-preserved example of a Gentleman Farm Property Type. As part of the "Agriculture in Louisville and Jefferson County, Kentucky 1800-1930" context, Dravo's built, tilled and natural landscape has retained the original integrity associated with the property since Valentine Conrad first settled the area in 1837. Dravo survives as an operative farm amid the intense and rapid suburbanization of the new Hurstbourne Lane corridor.

The property's cultivated use spans more than 150 years. During its period of significance/ three family owners (who were and are prominent citizens within the Louisville area) chose to till the soil as both vocation and avocation. As such, Dravo's form and function have consistently reflected the character of its owners and its surroundings. And, Dravo is just one example, though arguably the best example, of a genteel farm operation in the eastern portion of Jefferson County. Therefore, the discussion of Dravo draws upon the family histories and the history of Jeffersontown to support the context of this property as a gentleman farm.

Students learn framing and construct walls for their project during a free 8-week home construction class offered by the City of Greenville and the North Carolina Homebuilders Association. The training will provide students with valuable skills that can open doors for work in the construction industry.

I actually assembled that pizza and expertly manhandled it into the oven. That's me, somewhere in Calabria.
