Well except for the other kinda Vitamin D. and I’m not even being dirty so get your head out of the gutter >:0
I'm enjoying the last sunny days like this little plant I saw in the woods.
Vitamin D so much needed by Portlanders haha.
It has been a month of contrasts, and as I look at my October uploads I see the contrasts have been echoed in my photos. A cold almost frosty night can give way to summer-bright sunshine. A rainy day can clear for a vivid moonrise. In fact the early morning and late evenings have seen some of the best natural light. Indoors I've been playing with multiple light sources, for both low key and high key photography ... something I rely on more and more as the days shorten. We have had some lovely autumn colours in the leaves - but high winds and many rainstorms have made the displays short-lived, and as so often I try to bring the garden indoors, rather than battling the elements outside!
Beyond the focus through my camera lenses the world here seems to be descending into farce, with another new PM when the musical chairs stop! But not as funny as a traditional farce, with damaging results for all of the powerless audience. Austerity? Wasn't that the mantra in 2010, at the start of this seemingly endless administration? I have to think hard to pick up an echo of days when 'austerity' was not the governmental chant! Maybe it is better for my mental health to keep my focus on the immediate .. and forget that I am a Politics graduate!
As the month ends we have both had our 'flu and Covid bivalent boosters - and both are feeling quite a few side-effects. Suffering as I do from ME/PVS, it is a gamble for me to take even the 'flu vaccine ... so I am hoping that I emerge soon from this double-whammy. I'm being cautious, and resting as much as I can - apologies for slow or absent activity on Flickr, I feel I've missed out on so many wonderful images. I'm hoping that November will be a month of energy bounce back 😊
Many thanks to everyone who has visited my photostream and for the comments and faves.

To supplement or not, that is the question. What supplements are you taking and why? I have been taking Vitamin D but when I go back for my physical am going to see if it is really necessary.

The best SunSmart steps:
1 Slip on covering clothing. Choose clothing that covers as much skin as possible, for example, collared shirts with long sleeves...
2 Slop on SPF 30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen...
3 Slap on a hat...
4 Seek shade...
5 Slide on some sunglasses...
Why Is Sun Protection Important?
We all need some sun exposure. When skin is exposed to the sun, our bodies make vitamin D, which helps the body absorb calcium for stronger, healthier bones. It only takes a little time in the sun for most people to get the vitamin D they need (and most vitamin D needs should be met with a healthy diet and/or supplements).
Too much unprotected exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause skin damage, eye damage, immune system suppression, and skin cancer. Even people in their twenties can develop skin cancer.
How Do Sunburns Happen?
The sun radiates light to the earth, and part of that light consists of invisible UV rays. When these rays reach the skin, they cause tanning, burning, and other skin damage.
UVA rays cause skin ageing and wrinkling and contribute to skin cancer, such as melanoma (the most dangerous form of skin cancer). UVA rays pass easily through the ozone layer, so they make up the majority of our sun exposure.
UVB rays are also dangerous, causing sunburns, cataracts (clouding of the eye lens), and effects on the immune system. They also contribute to skin cancer, and melanoma is thought to be associated with severe UVB sunburns before age 20.
UV rays react with a chemical called melanin that's found in skin. A sunburn develops when the amount of UV exposure is greater than what can be protected against by the skin's melanin. The risk of damage increases with the amount and intensity of exposure. A tan is itself a sign of skin damage and does not help protect the skin.

for the Macro Mondays challenge “The Daily Routine” (November 7th 2016)
The daily selection of vitamins, minerals and supplements, designed to keep me healthy! The smallest liquid capsule at the very front is a high dose Vit D. The Scottish Government is concerned at the re-appearance of the bone disease rickets, which is linked to vitamin D deficiency. There are plans to issue free vitamins to all young children. Poor levels of sunshine, less outdoor exercise and the use of strong sunblocks seem to be making vit D deficiency a growing problem in the northern hemisphere.

A group of about a dozen turkeys were hanging out getting some vitamin D while the sun was shining on this beautiful, but freezing, day while the windchill was way below zero, -35 degrees below windchill or so.
A classic scene from southern Spain: sun-drenched orange trees bursting with ripe citrus under the Andalusian sky. These iconic bitter oranges aren’t for eating—but their fragrance fills the air and their zest lingers in local marmalades and history alike.
Going down to -23C tomorrow and will feel like -31C...the good thing is it's going to be a full-sun day and winds only at 10kmh. :) That'll mean more melting, refreezing, icicles & lots of Vitamin D which is what we really need!
My D7100 rant.. here goes...
The D7100 shadow recovery is TERRIBLE. got one to play with a couple weeks ago and totally regretted it. Took forever to clean this up and still not very happy with it. ARGH end of rant. haha on a side note, hope everyone having a great Monday and getting your daily dose of vitamin D from the pic. :)

Macro Monday 9 October, 2017 – Side Lighting
The idea, of course, came from the description to this week’s Macro Monday challenge: Think first/third quarter moon phases - there is high contrast with one side far brighter than the other side and the craters casting distinct shadows.

We all need sunshine to get our Vitamin D. Many of us take supplements also. But the best source is the sun!
Introducing my wife who is looking out the porthole on our way to our winter home in Florida. She doesn’t like winters. All her work is done online, so do it in Ottawa or Clearwater, no difference.
The frantic day of Dec 31 (aka day 365) was due to last minute prep including getting a negative test done that is not older than 24 hrs (must be time stamped in a pharmacy in our case) in order to board the plane. The check-in process was also long and complicated as you have to upload your negative test, proof of vaccination and answer a million question. Add to this all the last minute packing, etc. All worth it.
