L'arte è uno strumento per esplorare e dare forma a emozioni difficili come la malinconia, il panico o il senso di inautenticità, rivelando il disagio esistenziale dell'artista e della società.
L'uso di colori cupi, o un contrasto acceso e inquietante, come il rosso del cielo, può riflettere uno stato d'animo tormentato. La rappresentazione di sguardi vuoti e privi di vita può simboleggiare un'anima spenta o un legame reciso con il mondo. La rappresentazione di figure umane in preda al panico, alla disperazione o allo smarrimento, come nel quadro "Il Grido" di Munch, diventa un paradigma del disagio universale.
