This is one of a group of photos taken in a single afternoon on Antelope Island Road in June of 2017. There were so many beautiful elements to the landscape here from the wildlife, the cloud formations, sunset and the reflective state of the lake.

Up at two am to race the sun for this spectacular sunrise. It was a busy day- two National Parks, one State Park and a long hike on BLM land. Over a thousand images made. This is the first I am showing.

A colorful formation in contrast to the gray cliffs that follow the Hole-in-the-Rock Road, Devil’s Garden is a unique, easily-accessible natural play park. After driving 12 miles down the graded road, there is a signed pullout for this spot designated as an “Outstanding Natural Area.”

As part of the Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument, this desert destination features hoodoos, natural arches, and various sandstone formations—some are reminiscent, on a smaller scale, to areas such as Goblin Valley.

Devil’s Garden is a maze of sandstone formations formed by, and continuously shaped by, erosion. Nature’s hand has been at work since the Jurassic Period more than 166 million years ago. Presently, Devil’s Garden boasts hoodoos, arches, and other rock protrusions from the sandy, desert landscape.

Built in 1970, this sometimes-visible earthwork sculpture created by Robert Smithson is now a good half-mile from the water’s edge.

Fall is fading fast as winter creeps over the mountains in my largest panorama ever. All of the Salt Lake Valley is visible, from the snow on the peaks of the majestic Wasatch front to the sunshine on the Oquirrhs. You can see everything from the University of Utah in the east to Salt Lake International in the west, and everything in between like the Kennecott pit mine. 16 vertical images stitched into a 5K x 27k pixel pan.

The snow was just so pretty. I went up the street and shot this at the golf course. My neighbor Peter honked at the crazy man in the snow shooting pictures.... then he said to himself, "Oh, it's only Dave..." True!

"While the dunes are estimated to be 10,000 to 15,000 years old, this state park was first opened to the public in 1963. A phenomenon known as the Venturi Effect created the dunes, which is when wind passes through a notch between the Moquith and Moccasin Mountains. It increases velocity through the notch, which erodes the sandstone and carries the grains to the dunes.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes is the only major sand dune field on the Colorado Plateau. Another unique aspect of the park: This is the only place in the world where you can find the Coral Pink tiger beetle." www.visitutah.com

Update October 1, 2017 - I replaced the original with a fresh edit and larger image.

"The Subway" in Zion National Park, Utah. The sun was mostly behind clouds, so I didn't have the reflected red light from the opposing sandstone cliffs coming in the other end this time.

After a few test shots, I set my aperture down to f/22 and my ISO to "L" (50) so I could use a long exposure of 30 seconds to capture the trails of the leaves moving around in the pool.

The crescent moon had set, so I needed all the light I could get. Fortunately I bought an f/1.4 24mm lens for night shooting like this.

I shot continuously from at least a couple of hours, so I'll be able to asemble a timelapse video of the earth rotating under the Milky Way. I planned to shoot from 3am until 5:30am, but I realized as the sun was coming up an hour earleir than I expected that I had driven to a new time zone.

This was the light when I arrived in Bryce Canyon National Park Tuesday evening. It snowed an inch or so last night, so I'll have some interesting photos coming once I have a chance to look at them. I'm in Zion now!

Life has a finite length.

What would your life be like if you treated every day as a precious resource, never to be repeated, and one of the few days you have on this planet in which to accomplish everything you'd like to do?

Light Painting in Goblin Valley, Utah.

These views i shot of Bryce Canyon were taken on a quick road trip through Utah in June of 2017. My wife and i partnered with Ford to drive from Los Angeles to New Mexico. This was one of our many stops.
