Philadelphia City Hall is the house of government for the city of Philadelphia, in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

At 548 ft (167 m), including the statue of city founder William Penn atop it, it was the tallest habitable building in the world from 1901 to 1908. It remained the tallest in Pennsylvania until it was surpassed in 1932 by the Gulf Tower in Pittsburgh; it was the tallest in Philadelphia until the construction of One Liberty Place (1984–87) ended the informal gentleman's agreement that limited the height of buildings in the city. Today, it is the state's 16th-tallest building.

City Hall has been the world's tallest masonry building since the 1953 collapse of the pinnacle of the Mole Antonelliana in Turin. Its weight is borne by granite and brick walls up to 22 feet (6.7 m) thick. The principal exterior materials are limestone, granite, and marble.

In 2007, the building was voted #21 on the American Institute of Architects' list of Americans' 150 favorite U.S. structures.

----------------------------------

Dilworth Park has been transformed from an inaccessible, multi-level, hard-surface plaza into a sustainable, well-maintained, green public space without stairs or barriers from the street. By covering existing openings and removing unnecessary walls, steps and barriers, the renovated Dilworth Park now has 20,571 square feet of new useable area (an increase of 21%) resulting in an expanded 120,557-square-foot public space. There will be a large lawn, tree groves, a programmable fountain and space for 400 benches and chairs. The underground has been dramatically improved as a new transit gateway, providing entrances to Broad Street and Market Street subways and the trolley lines. New elevators will make the transit levels accessible for the first time.

"No person has the right to rain on your dreams."

Nine large sculptures will be on display throughout Philadelphia through the end of February, designed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and incorporating quotes from King as creative inspiration. Sculpture locations include the African American Museum in Philadelphia, the Betsy Ross House, City Hall, the Comcast Center Plaza, the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia School District Main Building and Temple University. More than 50 students — hailing from schools and organizations such as the Philadelphia High School for the Creative & Performing Arts, Overbrook School for the Blind, Girard College, Big Brother Big Sisters and more — were commissioned to create the works. (captioned CAPA/Comcast, don't know who the artists were on this)

In 2007, the building was voted #21 on the American Institute of Architects' list of Americans' 150 favorite U.S. structures.

graylightning218: Like that romanesque house on the left. Do you know any background on it?

someguyinphilly: @graylightning218 It's cool, isn't it? It's the Charles T. Ellis House designed by William H. Decker, 1430 N. Broad St. Phila.

doyledesignphilly: The door behind the tree on the right was done by us, ha ha! The house on the left has some cool history. I saw it on a Broad Street documentary a while back, wish i could remember @graylightning218

Happy Valentine's Day from the Love Park in Philadelphia Pennsylvania

Love Park (official name: JFK Plaza) is a plaza located in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The park is nicknamed Love Park for Robert Indiana Love sculpture which overlooks the plaza.

The "Love" sculpture, designed by Robert Indiana, was first placed in the plaza in 1976 as part of the United States' Bicentennial celebration. It was removed in 1978, but the sculpture was missed and the chairman of Philadelphia Art Commission, F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., bought the sculpture and permanently placed it in the plaza, in 1978.

Robert Indiana was born Robert Clark in New Castle, Indiana.

Valentine's Day which is celebrated on February 14th, can be traced back to Saint Valentine in Rome Italy 269 A.D.

It is believed that Valentine's Day originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine".
