Around the age of one, babies begin pointing to communicate relatively complex thoughts, including interest, desire, information, and more. Here we grouped from the east coast, Long Island, to west coast, Vancouver. He’s hoping to get a cousin soon.

Greta's teacher just called her name and asked her a question about the lesson. She quickly got back to task.

Bambusina borreri, Genicularia spirotaenia, Mougeotia scalaris , Desmidium grevillei, Desmidium swartzii, Docidium baculum, , Mougeotia viridis, Spirotaenia condensata, Teilingia excavata.

One of many shots taken from our hot air balloon ride.

The balloon slowly rotates around its axis, as it travels. I don't know if this is done by design or just something that wind causes. Either way, your view constantly changes.

Early in the morning, this changes the color temperature and white balance quite dramatically, depending on which way you are facing relative to the Sun. Here are two photos of basically the same scene, but at a 45° change of angles. I left the WB unchanged.

Normally at this time of year I would be attending a Life Ministries youth "Quake" with the church kids. This year due to COVID the event was on line in an abbreviated form. These pictures are nothing special. Hopefully next year we will be at an actual weekend event again.

My friend Michael Naimark is exploring new ideas for virtual reality experiences, in collaboration with Google and other researchers. To discuss this work, we got together with two other colleagues, Steve Gano and Jim McKee -- with whom we worked at the Apple Multimedia Lab in the eighties, pushing the envelope on related questions.

We started with a tour of the historic Sentinel Building in North Beach, home of American Zoetrope -- where Francis Coppola worked on many cinematic masterpieces like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. We checked out the underground screening room and sound mixing room where some of that work took place, then headed upstairs to Michael and Jim’s studios, for a wonderful conversation about the new VR frontier.

Michael and his colleagues are researching how people are represented in virtual reality. Their first experiment at Google’s “Big Chairs” Park led to some helpful guidelines on how to film people for VR, by using different camera angles and distances.

They’re also investigating ‘hyper-images’ that resemble a group of people, but that are shot at different times and composited together to create both ‘credible’ and ‘incredible’ pictures. To enable more experiments like these, Michael is developing ‘IMU VR’, a new type of camera that could make it easier for communities to tell their stories in VR. More on this later.

It was great to reconnect with my colleagues and brainstorm these ideas together. It felt like the good old days, and the creative juices were flowing all over again ...

Good-bye to Winter Hollow.

Although we'll leave the build up (for awhile), with Snowdrift and her lovely sleigh of white coasting through the landscape, the ponies and circus horse performer will be gone after today.

WINTER HOLLOW: a Winter Wonderland Experience

Presented by Elite Equestrian, Tarot @ Teatime, and Virtual Community Radio

December 1-January 3 on Willow Grove in Second Life.

Join us for a beautiful rendition of Winter and the Winter holidays in Winter Hollow 2023 as conceived of by Honey Heart.

The magic of the season is yours, but don't delay. This build, like any snowflake, is unique and transient and it dissolves into the ether on January 3rd.

To visit before this vision of Winter melts like a snowflake in spring...

Virtually manipulated photograph created using a pre-written coding application through which the process of manipulating the relationship to light, texture, form and virtual spatial inhabitance of a three-dimensional shape, created from an inherently two-dimensional image, is made intuitive

I am currently in the process of both working with a computing student in Processing and getting to grips with Blender myself to enable free and experimental manipulation of physical space within a digital realm

These pieces are a rudimentary examples of my exploration into digital sculpting and I would ideally like to present these forms into various physical spaces in order to propose a dialogue between two such realms

Here is the post related to this map: Virtual Universes Landscape.

A young lion cub walks, side by side, with her mother in a virtual timeline. Cubs are born sequestered from the pride, where they live the first few months of their lives. While their mother goes off to hunt, she leaves them alone, generally well hidden. At these times they are most vulnerable to predation from a wide variety of other animals. At several months of age, a lioness introduces her young offspring to the pride. They now enjoy the added protection afforded by numbers, and females and young males will almost always share in nursery duties. When she is full grown the cub will have become an integrated member of the pride, and with time will bear offspring of her own. #LionCubs
