Over recent weeks, the Driver Training School has undertaken a VIP escort training course for motorcyclists. Four riders took part in each course, which consisted of three days training and a final, day long assessment.
Motorcyclists undertake escort duties as part of their general role within the force; this can range from accompanying wide loads on the motorway to escorting football supporters to/from Luton Town FC.
However, VIP escort is slightly different; the riders have to ensure that the protected vehicle is in continual motion. One rider stays with the main vehicle, whilst the other riders go ahead to halt traffic. Once the vehicle has passed, the rider then overtakes the protected vehicle and moves onto the next junction.
The continual movement, changing environment and high speeds mean that each rider has to be fully aware of his fellow riders, the protected vehicle and the potential threats and hazards along the route – all of which can suddenly change.
These photographs were taken during the final assessment day when the riders were to escort a vehicle from Luton to Bedford via some of the towns en route. VIP escort is something that Bedfordshire Police Motorcyclists have undertaken over a number of years, and as collaborated unit, it is important that Roads Policing Unit is able to provide this service throughout Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.
At Bedfordshire Police our aim is "fighting crime, protecting the public."
We cover 477 square miles, serve a population of around 550,000 and employ in the region of 1,260 Police Officers, 950 police staff and 120 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). For more details about the force, visit our website www.bedfordshire.police.uk

Yeah this is a VIP of my Battle of The Ardennes MOC. It looks really good IMO so you might get some pictures after the next weekend. As I said it includes 2 StuGs and one Sherman tank, as you can see if you look close.
If you have any comments or critics from this pic, it is very much appreciated. :)

Just a quick rescale of the 40178 VIP promotional set, well, at least the VIP card portion of the build. The grey plates show the size of the original card from the set, and I believe I only used parts from the set and had a few spares left over. The new size fits a lot better on display at my workspace and I think I'll have to integrate the other half of the set into one of my buildings in the my city.
Comments, criticism and questions are welcome, and keep an eye out for more.

There's an RAF ensign fluttering above the cockpit area denoting a VIP on-board but I can't recall who.

Isherwoods sold petrol under the "Super" brand, and later VIP, becoming one of the country's major discount chains during the 1960s and expanding significantly from its north-western base. I think the symbol on the petrol pump globe is an 'S', suggesting Super, but the VIP name has already appeared—the receipt lists the "11 branches giving V.I.P. service", in Eccles, Monton, Salford, Manchester, Stretford, Levenshulme, Stockport, Preston, Freckleton, Blackpool, and—somewhat out of area!—Bewdley. I think the Bewdley site came with Isherwoods' takeover of a Kieft Oil Products depot.
Presumably these were all the sites owned by Isherwoods themselves rather than the many other dealers they also supplied.
The Ford 100E suggests this is a 1950s receipt, but the date field starts "196_". If my calculations are correct, the price of 8 gallons of petrol for £1 12s 8d works out at about 4.5p per litre—making this petrol very cheap for the early 60s, significantly cheaper than the 1960 average of 5.1p per litre (from this table, p24 researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN04712/S... ) although it looks like those figures are for premium grades.
During the 1960s, Isherwoods / VIP would be bought by the American Signal Oil & Gas (later to be briefly owned by Burmah) and then sold to Armand Hammer's Occidental Oil (Oxy), then Elf (in turn later taken over by Total).
I haven't yet looked at all the addresses on the back of the receipt, but it's interesting to see that the Stretford site was still Total in 2012 goo.gl/maps/BTz6eBhmmyokGUNq5 — probably an unbroken chain of company ownership from Isherwoods -> VIP -> Elf -> Total. Looks like it finished its days as BP before becoming a hand car wash.
