Need your help. I need a new monitor asap and am trying to decide what to get. Want one that is good for editing photos wrt color, etc. but don't want to spend a ton. Any suggestions on good monitors welcome!! Thinking about the ViewSonic VP2365 or HP ZR2440W both of which have IPS and LED. Thanks.

Chestnut Munia (or Southern Black-Headed Munia)(Lonchuria Atricapilla)

Family Estrildidae (Weaver-finches)

This family consists of the weaver-finches, such as munia, silverbill, waxbill, avadavat and various finches. Amongst the most famous are the very colourful Gouldian Finches - the mascot for the computer monitor manufacturer, Viewsonic. Munias are grassland birds feeding mainly on seeds. They look big-headed and have a conical bill. They are gregarious, often forming mixed flocks with other munia species. The juveniles look alike between species; mostly plain brown with subtle differences. It is comical to see them landing on a stalk of tall grass and the stalk dropping down.

Singapore has 7 species. The most common is the Scaly-breasted Munia. The aptly named White-headed and Black-headed Munias are also common. The introduced Javan Munia used to be common, but is now uncommon. Another two introduced species are the uncommon Red Avadavat and the very rare White-capped Munia. The last species is the rare White-rumped Munia.

Other birds from this family seen around Singapore are escapees or releasees, e.g. Blue Waxbill, Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu, Orange-cheeked Waxbill, Crimson-rumped Waxbill, Black-rumped Waxbill, Common Waxbill, Orange-breasted Waxbill, Indian Silverbill, Bronze Munia, Red-backed Munia, Java Sparrow. It is not surprising to see more of these introduced birds due to the pet bird trade and the practice of releasing animals for religious purpose.

This is my squeezy desk with my MacBook Pro 15", ancient 19" Viewsonic monitor, iPhone 3G 16Gb (in dock), 2 - Western Digital MyBook 500Gb external hard drives...and a 7-port hub to handle everything...oh, and a TWiT (This Week in Tech) wallpaper!

* 29th Nov 08* I just added a little 160Gb external for photos. Now there's a dedicated drive just for pics.

In Hong Kong our homes are tiny and so the desk is tiny too. =)

** The lid closing/open thing is sorted now...running monitor with MBPro lid closed no prob =) **

Oh yeah, added a 640Gb WD external early '09

One more added...a 640Gb Buffalo External HD...I think 2.5Tb should do for now hehe

...oh, and I just replaced (September 09) my original 120Gb MacBook Pro 5400rpm drive with a 320Gb 7200rpm drive. Did a bit for machine speed. =)

this is pig... a toy pig.

i decided to finally upload cause im using a borrowed monitor... a 15in CRT... compaq mv520 from 1999... i can barely see anything let alone color. so if this is blown out i won't know for about a week when my new, hopefully functioning viewsonic LCD arrives from texas. wish me luck y'all.

DSC_41542 If any one else can give input I would appreciate it. My monitor quit so I had to get a new one and it seems that ever since it has been a battle to get the 'Brightness' & 'Contrast' settings correct. Maybe I need a new monitor? Yes, I also know that I can adjust my monitor settings, the problem is that it is an LCD and if your not looking at the correct angle it produces different results. Same brand Viewsonic monitor just a different model. Also another bad habit I picked up on is staying up late working on images in the dark, I have also compensating for brightness levels in the dark, so what looks good at night might not in the day.

Viewsonic? ^_^.......

iMac 24" 2.66MHz, Viewsonic 19" WS, PowerMac G5 Tower, Gateway 24" HD Display, Wacom Bamboo, Dinovo Edge & Revolution Mouse, Apple Wireless BT Keyboard & Magic Mouse, Canon LIDE Scanner, XBox 360, iControl, Comcast HD Cable Box, M-Audio Podcast Factory, iPhone 3Gs 32GB, 13" MacBook Pro on a 12 South ArcBook, iPod Shuffle and 2nd Gen iPod - oh, and a small sample of my Superman Collection.

...actually the Slate-colored Juncos (Junco hyemalis hyemalis) have been back for a while. A small group that spends every winter with us arrived right on time in early October. But until these two pics were taken of this male, I hadn't been spending much time photographing birds until fairly recently.

So you'll know, the red in the background is Hawthorn tree "pomes". A small fruit the tree bears known as "haws". The best-known example of a pome is the apple, but "haws" are a lot smaller...about the size of a large pea. Plus they withstand subfreezing temperatures better than an apple of crabapple. Always remaining firm in spite of freezing and thawing many times during the winter. Our Hawthorn trees had a bumper crop of "haws" this year, which numerous birds feed on over the winter months, as well as an occasional squirrel and chipmunk.

On a different subject, with my new monitor, being a LED HD 22 inch (55cm) ViewSonic, I would like to know if anyone is seeing a diffrence in the photos I'm now posting. Reason being is I'm seeing a difference when editing them and have to adjust things differently versus when I edited pics on my old monitor. Color seems to be different as well as contrast & brightness. So if anyone sees something that doesn't look quite right I'd really appreciate it if you don't hesitate to share it with me. Thank you....and for stopping by for a visit.

Wishing you a truly great last day of November and a most pleasant weekend. Almost forgot...Happy Feathery Friday to everyone.

My workbench. An IKEA jerker desk with some modifications. I added some shelf bracket rails and 24 inch brackets to hold the 48" shoplight. The little 15" Viewsonic is on an articulating VESA mount arm bolted onto the left side. Under the shelf I've got a 12 outlet 4 foot power strip. Wouldn't be complete without the mirror ball.

This was my desk in my basement office when I worked mainly from home for 6 months or so. Its a real mess at this point with cabling everywhere... I used Synergy to share 1 keyboard and mouse between all these systems, which is very useful.

I have since then trimmed this down a lot, getting rid of the HP P4, put one of the laptops upstairs, replaced MythTV with a TiVo and moved my Solaris platform into another room running on a Sun Sparc server.

But really these days my Macbook Pro is where I do 95% of my work, play and other geeky goodness.

Oh stop the pain... it's such a fun idea when you start out. Then a few hours into it, you realize it's the most tedious mind-numbing work. Then again, a lot of art is like that. That's why I haven't finished a piece in a while.

Anyhow, this particular piece took about a month to complete. An hour or two here and there. It's all very straight forward until you hit a weird angle. Then things slow to a grinding halt. It is very much like coding. Everything is going fine, until something breaks and you spend 90% of the time debugging. That is exactly what happens when you get to a weird angle or rounded shape, click click... sit back, review, think, erase and again.

This is an example of isometric pixel art, made famous by the men of eBoy. Their work has been featured in a variety of magazines, most notably, Wired, one of my monthly reads. The more traditional pixel art (think 8-bit NES characters such as Super Mario) has less rules so work goes by a little more quickly.

It'll be quite some time before I venture into IPA territory again. Perhaps to make some updates to this piece as my room changes, or to animate the various screens. If I work up the nerve, I may even try to develop an exterior piece to populate a plot at Pixel Acres or the more impressive I S O C I T Y. Anyone care to join me in our quest for pixel perfection?

Hey Tomo, remember KIR Studios. We should definitely make our presentations in IPA format.

Oh, almost forgot. For those not in the know, this is my bedroom. I've taken the liberty of tidying up the room a bit. I just didn't have the energy to add in all the random items that clutter up the space. I had a smaller Hitachi CM771 monitor occupying the desk when I started this piece, but halfway through, it was swapped out for a massive Viewsonic P220f, if anyone cares to see the CM771 in IPA format let me know.

BACKSTORY: Got up around 8:20AM, made it out driving by 8:53 and went out until 12:12 PM for a total of 3 hours, 19 minutes. Spent $38.75 plus ~$5.53 gas for 37.7 miles of driving (18.7 mpg @ $2.74/G), for a total cost of $44.28.

We drove to only 13 yard sales±, stopping at only 4 (31%) of them. We made 9 purchases (9 items) for a total estimated value of $147.38, leading to a profit/savings of $103.10. So in essence, we multiplied our $47.38 investment by 3.33X.

(Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $~117 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $103.10 in cash that we saved. How long does $117 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 3.3 hrs we spent here?)

Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $31.08/hr as a couple or $15.54/hr per person. This is kind of low for a ±yardsale± outing.

±THE TAKE:±

$10.00: wiimote, nunchuk, including motion plus detector, teal color (EV:$±10.99±). ($8.50 + $2.49 shipping).

$10.00: wiimote, nunchuk, including motion plus detector, white color (EV:$±10.99±). (8.50 + $2.49 shipping)

$7.00: monitor, flat screen, Viewsonic, VA1912WB, model # VS10866 (EV:$±29.56±). $9.99 + 19.57 shipping

$5.00: drum, bongo, 14" diameter, 2" high (EV:$±18.91±)

$3.00: office inbox storage bin, 3 bins, metal, 10.25x12.5x13.5" (EV:$12.95±). ($12.95 + $10.15 shipping, not counting shipping value because this can probably be picked up at a local store)

$2.00: game, Dr. Seuss, The Cat In The Hat, I Can Do That (EV:$±13.99±)

$1.00: game, Kosherland, Jet, Item# 601 (EV:$9.99 Marshalls price tag)

$0.50: game, Mad Professor Kitchen Chemistry, Be Amazing Toys (EV:$±10.95±)

$0.25: hat, jester, red, fluffy, 9 points (5 balls, 4 bells) (EV:$±5.95±)

HDR shot (courtesy HDR Camera+ for Android) of my Setup. At this point I LOVE this setup. So much more room than the fold up tables I had before. 1 27" Samsung LED LCD, 1 23" Samsung LCD (right), 1 22" Viewsonic LCD (left) all connected to THOR for 3 way Gaming, and 1 20" Viewsonic LCD (top) connected to ODIN (fileserver). Bought one by one over the course of about 5 years. 27" LCD was the most recent addition.

Desk is an Ikea Galant Corner Unit Right - Beech Veneer, with one extension on the right side, and 2 computer tower cradles mounted underneath.

Although it looks like the monitors sag and are mis-aligned, I compensate with the height of my chair, so from my view they are perfect. The slight sag is from the Monoprice brackets. The sag does not bother me at all and I highly recommend them due to their price.

Not shown is the Sumo Omni beanbag chair I have sitting on the other side of the room (in this picture I'm standing on it). Since adding my 27" LCD I have been using it a lot to watch movies in.

I bought a 24" iMac for a friend - he paid for it and had it shipped to my place. Ever since I've readied it for him by adding RAM and installing a couple of apps, he has constantly put off having me deliver it to his place.

It's his first computer and I sense he is a bit apprehensive about having one in his house. Kind of odd if you ask me. So until he musters up enough chutzpah, I'm using it my bedroom to watch movies and surf the internet. It sure beats the 19" Viewsonic TV we normally use in our bedroom.

yes, I have a pink desk and chair. I love pink.

Crashed early Friday night and woke early Saturday morning. With the weather hitting its peak- we decided to take a drive out to Montauk. Coming from Rego Park- it said 2 hours but be warned…. Saturday in July out to Montauk on a single lane road equals a 4-hour trip each way. Regardless, it's a drive people in lower New York should do. Long Island changes so dramatically, driving through small beach towns, upper class society getaway communities, suburbs, wineries- you name it, you come to realize how diverse this area is.

After reaching the Montauk lighthouse we were informed it was $20 a head to, not only get to the base of the lighthouse but to get on the property surrounding it..... not happening, go down the gravel path and follow the large stone walk way that goes around the coast/lighthouse and at the end you reach this secluded little beach. Some pretty epic views are right around the corner and the waves from the Atlantic come crashing against the walkway.

I decide to take a break from my beloved SD1 Merrill and shoot with a camera I have always been fascinated with but rarely get to use because frankyl I am a poor college grad- funding myself through life, a Canon 5D Mark II. I popped a Sigma 12-24mm 4.5-5.6 EX DG IS HSM on the front to get the best coastal coverage and the images to follow are what I made with it. This lens is ...amazing to say the least. Post processing through bridge>raw>cs5.1. I also got my hands on a viewsonic 24" monitor which is so nice compared to working off my Macbook 13".

This is my old office (2002- mid 2009) with equipment from 2005-2006. Now I have much more clean office.

Wanted to throw up a pic of the current setup:

Computer::

Alienware x51 GTX 645 i5 Blu-ray

LG 27" IPS LED Monitors x2

Viewsonic projector

Sound::

Analog (Default) -

Klipsh F-10s | Beringer xenyx 502 | Sherwood amp

Digital (when Projector is on)-

Polk Bookshelfs | Sony HDMI 7.1 amp

::

Apparently Flickr doesnt do tag descriptions anymore? So all the descriptions in my last pics are gone. I had model numbers and all that jazz but I wont go through that all again. If you have a question feel free to ask.

I added a couch, which made things a bit crampt. I basically use the dual monitors primarily, if I want to watch a video or something I will turn on the projector, which acts as a 3rd monitor. The Computer recognizes the HDMI amp is on and the Klipshs will switch off and go to the polks. I want to add more speakers eventually.

This is my new home office. I am a graphic designer, photographer, and social media marketer. You can check out some of my work on my website at swichkow.com

About the office:

The desk is made by a company called Legare and is made from solid bamboo and is completely modular. I have a MacBook Pro and 24" iMac for computers, I use my TV as a second monitor and backup both to the 4TB Drobo.

Please view in large size. Any questions feel free to ask.

Please view full frame on black to see the details & colors in the dark areas.

Having fun with bubbles & crossed polarizers.

CO2 bubbles in liquid have little effect on polarized light.

However, the bubble surface of water glass has a remarkable effect on polarized light.

SETUP:

The sole source of light for this photo was from a ViewSonic VP2365wb LCD monitor rotated 90° clockwise (which made the plane of polarization vertical). A pair of plastic champagne flutes was filled with ginger ale and placed on a sheet of black water glass in front of the monitor. The water glass rotates the plane of polarization to horizontal ± small variations due to the bubble surface texture. A polarizing filter was placed in front of the camera lens and rotated until the monitor appeared nearly black. The photograph was taken and rotated 90° clockwise for fun and 16x9 composition.

This is my custom dual screen wallpaper. The base wallpaper is called "dramatic room". The PSD was posted to deviantart by Stratification: stratification.deviantart.com/art/Dramatic-Room-PSD-76121960.

The Star Wars stuff was just picked up from various places on the Tubes. Couldn't tell you where.

My setup has a 24" iMac on the left and a Viewsonic VP171b on the right in portrait mode. The resolution of the Viewsonic isn't as high as the iMac, but it looks ok.

The widgets on the bottom right are Yahoo Widgets. The Twitter client is Twitterific. Almost all of my icons are customized (using CandyBar).

It's just the right combination of dark yet interesting...for me, anyway!
