Mehrangarh Fort, located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan is one of the largest forts in India.

The fort is situated 400 feet (122 m) above the city and is enclosed by imposing thick walls. Inside its boundaries there are several palaces known for their intricate carvings and expansive courtyards. A winding road leads to and from the city below. The imprints of cannonball hits by attacking armies of Jaipur can still be seen on the second gate. To the left of the fort is the chhatri of Kirat Singh Soda, a soldier who fell on the spot defending the Mehrangarh fort.

There are seven gates, which include Jayapol (meaning 'victory'), built by Maharaja Man Singh to commemorate his victories over Jaipur and Bikaner armies. Fattehpol (also meaning 'victory') gate was built by Maharaja Ajit Singh to mark the defeat of the Mughals. The palm imprints upon these still attract much attention even today.

The museum in the Mehrangarh fort is one of the most well-stocked museums in Rajasthan. In one section of the fort museum there is a selection of old royal palanquins, including the elaborate domed gilt Mahadol palanquin which was won in a battle from the Governor of Gujarat in 1730. The museum exhibits the heritage of the Rathores in arms, costumes, paintings and decorated period rooms.

There were good breakers yesterday at Peggy's but on the side of the peninsula behind me, not visible from the platform.

A view out of the window of our Airoplane. The sun peeked just behind the wing and we were flying above the clouds. This image and more from my trip to Austria are featured in my blog: www.martijnvandernat.nl/winter-wonderland/

The real life kicked in for a while and I found myself with an itchy triggerfinger. Both for the camera and for the computer mouse and Flickr.

This is one of the first images received from Sentinel-3A’s Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR). Acquired with the instrument’s visible channels on 2 March 2016 at 10:04 GMT, this false-colour image features a large part of Europe showing vegetated areas in red. Moreover, the image demonstrates the instrument’s 1400 km-wide swath. The image also clearly shows storm Jake over the UK. As the SLSTR scans Earth’s surface, it senses visible light and infrared light (heat) in a number of different spectral channels. However, the thermal infrared channels will soon be working when the instrument has finished outgassing water vapour. This is necessary because the infrared channels must be cooled to operate properly. Once operational, the thermal-infrared channels will measure global sea- and land-surface temperatures every day to an accuracy of better than 0.3ºC.

For a spectacular view over Lake Garda there is nothing to beat a ride on the Malcesine cableway. On a clear day you can see the whole of the lake, from Riva to Peschiera del Garda: a breathtaking panorama. The Malcesine cable car is unique in the world: on the upper section the cabin slowly rotates offering a view of 360° and the sensation of flying. Mount Baldo is a truly unique mountain. It is therefore not surprising that the Monte Baldo is one of the most popular areas for sports and nature lovers of all kinds. Walkers, hikers, mountain bikers and paragliders appreciate the advantages of the mountain. The influence of the lake climate on the altitude has made it possible for many different natural environments to co-exist, from the Mediterranean scrub to the pastures and rocks on the higher peaks. It is thanks to these particular features that Mount Baldo has earned the name of Garden of Europe; it is the true link between the Alps and the Mediterranean. The most widespread activity here above sea level is dairy farming of cows. There are many, mostly small alpine huts where milk is made into delicious fresh or medium mature cheeses. The Monte Baldo cheese is also known as Primo Fiore.

Monte Baldo is a mountain in the Italian Alps with its maximum elevation of 2,218 m. The numberous peaks in the Monte Baldo offer paragliders and hang-gliders optimal starting places. The area is particularly loved by paragliders because it is easy to get to by cable car, and there is an enormous altitude difference from the peaks to the landing area in Malcesine.

Back in November last year I was up country on a road trip and caught train 251 at Waiouru heading south, about to duck under State Highway 1, Mount Ruaphehu shimmering in the distance.

The high mid day sun made for tricky shooting but a massage in post production helped yeld a nice image.
