I saw this attractive Queen Anne Victorian with tower in Montgomery, Alabama.

The house has been turned into offices, and it looked like it was being lovingly maintained.

My sister, Diane, lives in Van Buren, Arkansas. The city is adjacent to Fort Smith, AR, and is located near the Oklahoma state line.

When visiting, we enjoy browsing in the many antique shops in downtown Van Buren.

There are many attractive Victorian buildings downtown.

Condos now... :-( Just went there for a couple days... right next to Newport.... lovely !

The Nelson Monument is a monument to Admiral Horatio Nelson, in Exchange Flags, Liverpool, England. It was designed by Matthew Cotes Wyatt and sculpted by Richard Westmacott. It stands to the north of the Town Hall and was unveiled in 1813.

In 1805, Liverpool City Council resolved to commemorate Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar by erecting a monument and voted to pay £1,000 towards its design and construction. A public subscription fund was launched and within two months a total of £8,930 (£610,000 as of 2014)[1] had been reached; this included £750 from the underwriters at Lloyd's and £500 from the West India Association. It was agreed that the monument should be located in a prominent site near the Exchange. A competition for its design was arranged, and this was won by Matthew Cotes Wyatt, son of James Wyatt, the contract being signed in 1809. Matthew Wyatt was relatively inexperienced, and was assisted by Richard Westmacott.[a] The first stone was laid on 15 July 1812, and the monument was unveiled on 21 October 1813, the eighth anniversary of Nelson's death. In 1866 the monument was moved to its present site in Exchange Flags to allow for an extension to the Exchange Buildings, and the Westmorland stone base was replaced by one in granite

The monument consists of a bronze statue on a stone base. Its overall height is 29 feet (8.8 m), and the circumference of the base is 95 feet 4 inches (29.1 m). The base consists of a drum-shaped pedestal in Westmorland marble 8 feet 10 inches (2.7 m) high, standing on a granite basement 6 feet (1.8 m) high.[b] Seated around the pedestal are four statues depicting manacled prisoners sitting in poses of sadness; they represent Nelson's major victories, the battles of Cape St Vincent, the Nile, Copenhagen, and Trafalgar. Set into the drum between the statues are four bronze bas-reliefs depicting other naval actions in which Nelson was involved. Encircling the pedestal above the statues are swags of laurel hanging from behind lions' heads. Attached to rings in the lions' mouths are chains that descend to manacle the prisoners. At the top of the pedestal is a cornice with an inscription in metal letters reading ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY (sic).[2]

On top of the pedestal is a bronze group of figures 14 feet 2 inches (4.3 m) high, each figure being 7 feet (2.1 m) in height, and forming a roughly pyramidal structure. There are five figures surrounded by the drapes and poles of captured flags, with an anchor and a rope on the ground. An idealised nude representation of Nelson stands with one foot on a cannon and the other on an enemy's corpse, holding upright a sword on which Victory is placing the last of four crowns.[c] To the right of Nelson is the figure of Death reaching out to touch him. On the left of Nelson is a British seaman striding forward. Behind Nelson is the figure of Britannia holding a laurel wreath and Nelson's decorations.

The monument was the first item of public sculpture to be erected in Liverpool, and is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building. Grade II* is the middle of the three grades of designation for listed buildings and is applied to "particularly important buildings of more than special interest".

Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul, MN, was originally the Federal Courts Building.

The building was completed in 1892 in the Victorian Richardsonian Romanesque style.

In 1972, the City of St. Paul purchased the building for $1.00. In 1978 it opened as Landmark Center.

During my walkabout in downtown Frederiksted, on St. Croix of the US Virgin Islands, I noticed this attractive building with its arched colonnade.

The town was destroyed by fire in 1878 during a labor revolt. Many of the 1700's buildings were destroyed. The town was rebuilt during the Victorian era, resulting in buildings with "gingerbread" trim.

Sutton Coldfield railway station on the Cross-City Line which runs between Redditch to Lichfield via Birmingham New Street. Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, West Midlands.

It was opened in 1862 as the terminus of the train line from Birmingham New Street. In 1884 a tunnel was built north of the station so the line could be extended to Lichfield. The station was the location of a train crash on 23 January 1955, in which 17 people died.

The station is of Victorian architecture with red brick and elaborate ceilings and pillars. One platform is sheltered while the other is open air. The main building itself is built on a hill with a tunnel running underneath it. It is accessed via Station Street and Railway Road.

The Albert Memorial, directly north of the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington Gardens, London, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her beloved husband Prince Albert, who died in 1861. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the Gothic Revival style, it takes the form of an ornate canopy or pavilion 176 feet (54 m) tall, in the style of a Gothic ciborium over the high altar of a church, sheltering a statue of the prince facing south. It took over ten years to complete.

The Langdon Building is a 300 First Avenue North in the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District.

It was built in 1887 in the Richardsonian Romanesque Style with elaborate terra cotta ornamentation and finely detailed brickwork.

A decorative letter "L" in a foliated circle can be seen on the facade.

Built in the late Nineteenth Century, "Claremont: is a weatherboard villa, which may be found in the small alpine town of Wandiligong.

This villa is quite charming and obviously belonged to someone of means, for it is not a miner's cottage with several rooms built either side off a central hallway. It features two red brick chimneys and an elegant shady verandah that runs around the perimeter of the house. The house's name, "Claremont" appears painted in gilt letters on the lunette above the front door.

Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.

Hainesburg, NJ / September 2024

The following is quoted from the website of the vet clinic which currently occupies the building: "The historic Hainesburg Mansion was built in 1828 by architect Andrew Smith. In its backyard are the remnants of the former Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad lines which ran alongside the Paulinskill River (which feeds into the Delaware River). The mansion was sold to railroad tycoon Jacob M. Blair around 1843 and later acquired by Jacob Andress in 1885. Andress and his family made the mansion their home for many years. Since then, it has changed ownership many times, establishing itself as an inn, a restaurant, an ice cream parlor, and even a speakeasy at one point. In 2008, Dr. Jon Bertoldo acquired the Mansion in an attempt to maintain its Victorian charm and make it a veterinary practice unlike any other."

Scarborough Market Hall has been at the heart of the town’s trading life since 1853. Designed by architect Henry Wyatt, its cast-iron frame and glass roof were cutting-edge for the time, creating a bright, spacious venue for local traders. Today, it’s a blend of the traditional and the modern - where butchers and greengrocers rub shoulders with craft stalls, cafés and vintage finds. Refurbished in recent years, it remains a lively and welcoming spot to soak up Scarborough’s community spirit and support independent traders.

Number 45 on Edinburgh's premier thoroughfare, Princes Street is a hotel (the Old Waverley), designed by John Armstrong in 1883 in Renaissance Revival style. On either side, on Princes Street and South St David Street some low grade post-modernist drivel. The Old Waverley is only Grade B listed, so it's not even that special: that's just how they built in the 19th Century. We can't now, I think, even if we wanted to.

This is an east elevation across the grounds of Belfast's City Hall, whose frontage is visible left, of one of Belfast's most handsome buildings. The Scottish Provident Building is a six-storey building with basement and attic-storey, designed by Young & Mackenzie Architects for The Scottish Provident Institution and built primarily in sandstone by Robert Corry in two phases between 1897 and 1902.

The first phase, at the corner of Donegall Square West and Wellington Place commenced construction in 1897 and was completed by 1900. Construction of the second phase, fronting onto Donegall Square West, commenced 1900 and was completed by 1902.

The building’s ornamental carvings, including female heads, representing Scotland, Ireland, England, India, Sudan and Canada were carried out by Purdy & Millard. Sculptures also depict the prevalent industries at the time of construction, including shipbuilding, rope making and weaving.

I saw this attractive and well maintained pair of Victorian houses from the Canal Streetcar in New Orleans, Louisiana.

They are located on the 4500 Block of Canal Street. I actually got off the streetcar to admire them. I then just waited a few minutes to catch the next streetcar.

This was the first high-rise building constructed in Minneapolis, in 1885. It was designed in the ‘Richardson Romanesque Style’ by Franklin B. Long and Frederick Kees. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the Lumber Exchange is the oldest building out of New York City that is more than 12 storeys-tall.

On a visit to St. Lucia, we took a shore excursion that included a stop at Caribelle Batik.

The shop is in a restored Victorian mansion.

We learned about the batik process and watched a man painting the fabric. It was an interesting stop.

When there, be sure and go to the back balcony. There is a spectacular view of Castries and the harbor.
