San Francisco's Postcard Row. It is probably the most photographed row of Victorian houses in the world.

The row is part of the Alamo Square Historic District. The photo was taken from Alamo Square.

In the distance is the San Francisco skyline.

During my walkabout in St. George's, the capital of the Caribbean island of Grenada, I notice this attractive Victorian house.

A Victorian Church with a 208 ft steeple. The church, in Early English style throughout, was begun in 1858 to replace an old medieval church located nearby.

The church was designated a Grade I listed building in 1968 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.

As seen through the Domed Glassed Roof of The Hepworth Arcade in Hull ..This Victorian Shopping Mall is a Grade ll Listed Building and was Built in 1894 ...

During my walkabout in downtown Frederiksted, on St. Croix of the US Virgin Islands, I noticed this building with its first floor colonnade.

On the second story, you can see a Victorian trim.

The town was destroyed by fire in 1878 during a labor revolt. Many of the 1700's buildings were destroyed. The town was rebuilt during the Victorian era, resulting in buildings with "gingerbread" trim.

Built in the Nineteenth Century, this little red brick and weatherboard cottage may be found in the small alpine town of Wandiligong.

Proudly it sits behind its white picket fence with wooden posts, simple and elegant. It features a corrugated iron roof and a verandah to help keep the cottage cool and shady during the warmer summer months. It also has two rather sturdy red brick chimneys with elegant capping. It once would have been the cottage home of one of the many miners that panned for gold during the Victorian Gold Rush.

Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.

Grantham, Lincolnshire — aerial view over the town and St Wulfram’s Church

This broad aerial panorama looks north across Grantham, the principal market town of south Lincolnshire, surrounded by the rolling farmland of the Vale of Belvoir. Dominating the skyline is the magnificent spire of St Wulfram’s Church, rising to 274 feet (83.5 m) — one of the tallest parish church spires in England and a landmark visible for miles across the county.

Grantham’s origins date back to Anglo-Saxon times, and it appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086. Its prosperity grew from its location on the Great North Road, the historic coaching route between London and York, and later from its railway connections on the East Coast Main Line, visible here at the bottom of the image.

In the 19th century, Grantham became a centre for engineering and agricultural innovation, home to Richard Hornsby & Sons, pioneers of the caterpillar track and early diesel engines. The town is also known as the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton’s schooling (at the King’s School) and Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female Prime Minister.

From this perspective, you can see the compact medieval core around the church, surrounded by Georgian and Victorian terraces, industrial heritage along the railway, and newer suburban housing on the hills beyond. The surrounding patchwork of fields and wooded ridges gives a sense of how the town nestles within its agricultural landscape.

Today, Grantham has a population of about 45,000, balancing its historic character with growth as a commuter and market centre for the East Midlands.

Trying to get back into sketching, I managed to get out today and did this one, it took two sittings as it started to rain a bit. There is a new sidewalk bench which I used for the sitting - a must have for "urban sketching".

Perspective is a bit wonky, I need to get my drawing "chops" back.

During my walkabout in downtown Frederiksted, on St. Croix of the US Virgin Islands, I noticed this attractive building with its arched colonnade and Victorian trim.

If you look closely, you'll see that the upper colonnade was decorated for Christmas.

The Distillery District is a national Historic Site with an incredibly rich history. The site was once The Gooderham and Worts Distillery, and represents the largest and best preserved collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture in North America.

In its time, The Gooderham and Worts Distillery played an important role in the growth and wealth of both the city and nation. In addition to various involvements in real estate and banking, the company at one time contributed more to Federal coffers than any other enterprise in the country.

The Distillery Historic District opens in May 2003 and quickly becomes a vital part of the city and one of Canada’s top tourist attractions.

Richmond's Old City Hall was completed in 1894 in the High Victorian Gothic Style. It took eight years to build.

It was the city hall until the late 1970's.

It borders Capitol Square in downtown Richmond.

The interior has been wonderfully restored and is a must to see when touring Richmond.

The view from Capitol Square.

The Albert Memorial, directly north of the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington Gardens, London, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her beloved husband Prince Albert, who died in 1861. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the Gothic Revival style, it takes the form of an ornate canopy or pavilion 176 feet (54 m) tall, in the style of a Gothic ciborium over the high altar of a church, sheltering a statue of the prince facing south. It took over ten years to complete.

This lovely Italianate Victorian is located near downtown Richmond, Virginia.

Manchester Victoria station as a lot of us remember it. A Derby lightweight dmu stands in Platform 11, 47306 comes through the centre road heading east and a Class 25 is on duty as the Miles Platting banker.

A view to the left is the Islington Branch from the main Ashton Canal between locks 1 and 2, the building to the right is the old lock keepers cottage.

Parque central-Puerto Plata

It is one of the main points of attraction and greater projection of Puerto Plata. It has one of the most cherished symbols of " Silver City ." It was one of the gifts of his people during the General Luperon led government in 1879.

The square is located in the center of the city. It is surrounded by very beautiful old buildings such as City Hall , the Catholic church, the Commerce Club , the Twin Houses , Bamboo and the Italian House . At its center is a gazebo and a kiosk that was built in the late nineteenth century and represents the elegance of Victorian architecture ; structure consists of two-storey octagonal , with a double and run gallery composed of arcs moriscos.5

This place was one of the first recreational places of the country. Trees and gardens were planted in the central park, and a platform that continually have given concerts that have attracted the population, such as the Municipal Concert Band Musical , was built for the present generations have an idea of the music played in the past.

Belfast’s Custom House is a symmetrical two-storey building, with basement and attic, designed in an Italianate Palazzo style by Sir Charles Lanyon. The building was designed by Lanyon in 1847 and built by D and J Fulton 1854-7. There were significant repair and refurbishment projects in 1983 and 1996.

Above it towers the 85m high Obel Tower, Ireland's tallest storeyed building, completed in 2011.

Also, on full zoom, we also see an obviously troubled young man intoxicated on the steps, giving a very different character to the photo.

Covent Garden in London dates back hundreds of years but the building has been in its current form since 1830.

I saw this attractive Queen Anne Victorian with tower in Montgomery, Alabama.

The house has been turned into offices, and it looked like it was being lovingly maintained.
