These are the stripped remains of the British steamer “H.M.S.Crested Eagle” on the beach of Zuydcoote (near Dunkirk). The wreck is a tragic reminder of the WWII Dunkirk evacuation: operation Dynamo. The Crested Eagle run aground on May 29, 1940 after being attacked by German dive bombers and set on fire, killing more than 300 soldiers and crew.
The Crested Eagle was one of 228 larger boats lost in the operation. Including the smaller boats, the number of ships sunk is more than 300.
This topic is near and dear to me. As a victim of cyber-bullying I understand how it can change your life.
The wounds on the inside take longer to heal than wounds on the outside do. They hurt more, they last longer, they alter who you are. Though it always makes you feel the way I look in this pic.

Die hier beigesetzten rund 700 namentlich bekannten Personen (Soldaten, Zivilisten, Kriegsgefangene) Starben bei den Bombenangriffen der «Operation Hydra», deren Ziel die Heeresversuchsanstalt Peenemünde war, am 17. Und 18. August 1943. Daneben gibt es einen Gedenkort für 56 mit Kopfschussverletzung in einem Massengrab aufgefundene Personen.
In der Heeresversuchsanstalt wurde vor allem die erste funktionsfähigen Grossrakete Aggregat 4 (A4, bekannt geworden als «Vergeltungswaffe» V2) entwickelt und getestet.

Crosses of the war victims cemetery next to the Karlshagen Memorial for the Victims of the Second World War and the Concentration Camp Prisoners Interned at Peenemünde.
The 700 persons buried here (soldiers, civilians, prisoners of war) are known by name and died during the bombing raids of "Operation Hydra", whose target was the Peenemünde Army Research Center (Heeresversuchsanstalt Peenemünde), on August 17 and 18, 1943. Next to it there is a site of remembrance for 56 people found in a mass grave with gunshot wounds to the head.
The first functioning large rocket, Aggregat 4 (A4, which became known as the "retaliatory weapon" (Vergeltungswaffe) V2), was developed and tested at the Army Research Center.
