The Macro Mondays theme for 6/19 is odd and this little yellow fellow seems to want to meander off on his own. (Last week’s posting to MM was neither blue nor a ducky, so I thought I’d portray both this week.)…… there are also two versions of this scene… grin… yes, I dithered.

Will put up the size verification later when I’m on my laptop, but this scene is just under 2 and a half inches.

The MM theme is odd and the micro-mini duckies are back!! After a MM posting last week that wasn’t at all my usual, I thought the blue duckies should make an appearance.

Computer scientist Margaret Hamilton helped get the Apollo 11 astronauts to the Moon. She led the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, the team responsible for developing the guidance and navigation system for the Apollo spacecraft and writing the code that brought astronauts into space and safely back home again.

Hamilton’s leadership and work formed the bedrock of software engineering as a whole. In this now-iconic photo, Hamilton stands next to listings of the Apollo Guidance Computer source code.

Having observed many times in my Australian garden, that Dragonflies and Damselflies like to cling to bare stems and twigs, in my French garden I prepared a few perches around, by removing the leaves from small branches which tend to stick out of trees and bushes. When I found this Southern Darter (Sympetrum meridionale) clinging to such thoughtfully prepared perch, I felt very happy to see that observation pays :) /

The Orchidaceae are a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants, with blooms that are often colourful and fragrant, commonly known as the orchid family. Along with the Asteraceae, they are one of the two largest families of flowering plants. The Orchidaceae have about 28,000 currently accepted species, distributed in about 763 genera. The determination of which family is larger is still under debate, because verified data on the members of such enormous families are continually in flux. Regardless, the number of orchid species is nearly equal to the number of bony fishes, more than twice the number of bird species, and about four times the number of mammal species. The family encompasses about 6–11% of all seed plants. The largest genera are Bulbophyllum (2,000 species), Epidendrum (1,500 species), Dendrobium (1,400 species) and Pleurothallis (1,000 species). It also includes Vanilla (the genus of the vanilla plant), the type genus Orchis, and many commonly cultivated plants such as Phalaenopsis and Cattleya. Moreover, since the introduction of tropical species into cultivation in the 19th century, horticulturists have produced more than 100,000 hybrids and cultivars. Orchids are easily distinguished from other plants, as they share some very evident, shared derived characteristics, or synapomorphies. Among these are: bilateral symmetry of the flower (zygomorphism), many resupinate flowers, a nearly always highly modified petal (labellum), fused stamens and carpels, and extremely small seeds. 32775

World's first steam powered clock

The insides of this clock is where the magic begins....

Built in 1977. Raymond Saunders' first steam clock was built in 1977 to solve the issue of a steam vent in a popular sidewalk for the renovated Gastown district of Vancouver. Owned by the City of Vancouver, BC Canada

The steam clock's plaque reads:

THE GASTOWN STEAM CLOCK

Designed and built by

Raymond L. Saunders

Horologist

The world's first steam powered clock has been created for the enjoyment of everyone. The live steam winds the weights and blows the whistles. Every 4.5 minutes one steel weight will travel by steam power to the top of the clock. The gravity driven "falling ball" drive was 'engineered' by Douglas L. Smith. Each quarter hour the clock will sound the Westminster Chimes. The large whistle will sound once on the hour. The steam is supplied by the underground system of Central Heat Distributor's Limited. The component parts cost $42,000 and the clock weighs over two tons.

A few years ago the clock was refit and is not entirely steam powered. It also has three small electric motors to help operate two internal fans, one of which blows the steam out the top, and another that controls the valves that play the tunes on the five steam whistles mounted atop the clock case.

The large central whistle, which was taken off the CPR steam tug Naramata, counts off the full hours while the four auxiliary whistles chime the Westminster Quarters every quarter hour. The number of chimes matches the number of quarter hours that have passed.

Gastown is the original settlement that became the core of the creation of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Currently, it is a national historic site and a neighbourhood in the northwest end of Downtown Eastside, adjacent to Downtown Vancouver.

Antoni Gallart.

Comment how the photograph was taken, English language:

I promised you that I would upload the photograph of the phantasm and here you have it.

Once we decided to stay to take night photos, the group was taking photos side by side, forming the first row lying on the ground, the second at half height and the third with the tripod raised, so that we did not bother each other with the others.

I chose a very low plane with the tripod fully open and one foot off the ground.

I took several shots with different exposure times to ensure a good capture.

Once the session with this frame is finished, I am about to verify the results and I see some boots or shoes that walk on my left side and I comment to the companions, who had passed by us and they answered me that no one, the bridge was lonely , I show them my capture and they begin to look at each other and nobody had seen it, but it happened ... it passed by us, there I leave it to your discretion.

Analyzing the shoes they look like leather boots of the time ... for that reason I have put this title in this photo that I hope you like. Antoni Gallart.

Lake Genval is one of the MOST beloved places for a Nature lover and photographer like myself!! You can verify it by watching some extraordinary moments and views I have already experienced here, in my photo file with this name . But this last 23d of June, I tasted this magical place in a more …deeper way!! Because I stayed here overnight!! In the Château du Lac! A lovely hotel with a strong personality and history! Though very modern inside!

During the evening of this day, and in the morning of the following one, I have tasted the magical energy, light, and colors of this place, taking some pictures again, of course! But also sharing the upliftment of these special moments with a very beloved person by my side, a great Nature photographer himself…

I am so happy to share with you today, Lake Genval, on my Birthday!!!

The Liard River Suspension Bridge (also referred to as the Lower Liard River Bridge) is a historic structure located at approximately kilometer 798 (historic mile 496) of the Alaska Highway in northern British Columbia, Canada, spanning the Liard River just south of Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park. Constructed during World War II as part of the rapid building of the Alaska Highway to connect the contiguous United States to Alaska for military purposes, the bridge was completed in 1943 after just nine months of work. It remains the only suspension bridge along the entire 2,232-kilometer (1,387-mile) route of the Alaska Highway and is one of six "special crossings" designated due to their engineering complexity.

The bridge was designed by the American Bridge Company, a prominent U.S. steel fabrication and bridge-building firm founded in 1900 through a merger orchestrated by J.P. Morgan, which had a long history of constructing record-breaking spans. Actual construction was carried out by engineers from the U.S. Public Roads Administration (PRA), which collaborated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the overall Alaska Highway project. The suspension design—spanning 307 meters (1,007 feet) in length and standing about 29 meters (95 feet) above the river—was chosen due to challenging ice conditions on the Liard River, which made it impractical to erect temporary scaffolding in the water for a more standard truss-style bridge.

A notable aspect of its construction was the use of salvaged steel from the infamous Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State (nicknamed "Galloping Gertie"), which had dramatically collapsed in 1940 due to aerodynamic instability just months after opening. This recycling of materials was a practical response to wartime steel shortages and helped expedite the project while reducing costs. The bridge site itself lies within a culturally significant landscape long used by Indigenous peoples, fur traders, and early explorers.

Since its completion, the bridge has been maintained as a key infrastructure element on the Canadian portion of the Alaska Highway, one of 25 bridges overseen in that section. It has undergone periodic upgrades, including erosion mitigation work around the Liard River and cable tension force testing in recent years (conducted by firms like Civionic Engineering for WSP Canada) to verify load ratings and structural integrity. As of 2025, the bridge remains in active use and is a popular landmark for travelers, offering scenic views of the surrounding boreal forest and river gorge.

GMC 910 Truck 1969 Owner Verification (Vintage manual focus lens) - Chatted for a while to the owner of this 1969 GMC 910 Truck (he verified the year) who was unloading it outside the skate hire shop at Olympic Plaza today. He’d owned the truck for a number of years and was thinking about having it repainted in the spring. Didn’t look in bad shape given it’s age!

No idea how old this ring is but it has been in the family for as long as I can remember and I'm an old guy now. I think it belonged to my grandmother. It is said to be a ruby but I can't verify that. For the Macro Mondays challenge: "Rings."

In the 1660s, English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton began a series of experiments with sunlight and prisms. Based on his experiments he argued that the geometric nature of the laws of reflection and refraction could only be explained if light is made of particles, which he referred to as corpuscles, as waves don't tend to travel in straight lines. Newton concluded that light is composed of colored particles that combine to appear white.

Well, this certainly isn’t what I drove down for… Last night was the ribbon cutting and first stop for the Southwest Chief at the new platform at the old Santa Fe depot in Ft. Madison. All the hubbub in the local media and from the hotel across the street implied that “the cutover” was happening that night and that all trains in the future would be using the new old station.

I should have verified with my contacts, as this was not correct. The official first day will be Wednesday [12/15] as management wants each crews to have completed “qualifying trips” on that extra mile of track… The first of those was 11/30 and apparently they won’t be done until early this week.

I’m just happy that I wasn’t completely f’d and found one set of containers that had a gap big enough for a sucker hole on the nose. If I had set up on the south side, I wouldn’t have gotten a damn thing. At least it was a nice day to go for a drive so momma could have some kid-free time.

As seen at the Ugo Mulas retrospective in Milan, Italy.

Exceptions verify the rule, but every moment is forever. And the moment it's over, it's been over half an hour ago. After an hour it's a day ago, after a day, a week, and so on. And when it's over it took only an hour or two, when it reality it was a whole day at work. Selling a ticket to the last car on the ferry, taking a look around if I forgot anyone, and I spot the red convertible all the way at the front. Oh right, that one, now that I see it. That's still there. Completely forgot I ever met that at all. Might as well have been ten crossings ago that I sold him his ticket.

Today I went to one of my ship spotting places. Yesterday... did I even go anywhere yesterday? Ah right, Hattingen. Or was that the day before yesterday? Did yesterday even happen? If so, where was I? Spending another day not worth remembering, I guess.

Pretty sure these are Radiatus clouds, but happy to be corrected. Spotted over Whitwell, Herts UK. UPDATE - Verified as Radiatus by The Cloud Appreciation Society.

Once verified the operation and management of the new camera and tested its proper functioning and not to tire the staff, I will upload pics as varied as possible of my huge stock.

In this case it is Zúrich that is a city whose tourist center is beautiful and I have many already edited and about to be uploaded to Flickr.

The conjunction of the urban landscape and the river Limmat gave me the ability to shoot the camera without rest and that most of them are good. The problem is to choose what to show in my gallery, because I have always intended to make it as varied as possible.

The opinion is always personal and there is the possibility of what I like, for another it is a vulgar photograph.

The edition is slightly different from my last images. I have tried to make it visually beautiful even though it is already by itself.

By the way, on the terrace with red flowers that looks to the left of the image, we ate my wife and myself. We ate very well, but the Swiss bills are terrifying.

Thank you in advance for your visits and comments.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

needed to reshoot bc my initial one which I liked way better was just a tad too large…. sigh

Another possibility for the MM theme of red and green for 12/23

Patricia Lane Evans - thank you

Hmmmm, oops, I didn’t do a size verification of this!! Can do a size verification for the tag but the ribbon is now a tether, so you’ll need to extrapolate.
