Here's the first rufous hummingbird I've seen this year. I saw it for about 10 seconds, then after that heard it buzzing around but didn't get another view.

That darn little twig in the way!!

And you could've been my four leaf clover

If I could do it over

I'd send you the pillow that I cry on

It doesn't matter, I'll just be gone.

This super super cute pose is from Hello gorgeous and it's out now at Access!!

I just wanna give a HUUGE huge thank you to Cassie for being so patient and helping me start to learn photoshop. This is my first photo that I've actually edited using PS, and I'm so stinking happy with how it came out thanks to her help and her amazing tutorial!

I've read that the head plume is not one feather, but a cluster of six overlapping feathers. This is the first time I've been able to see this.

"The California Quail is a handsome, round soccer ball of a bird with a rich gray breast, intricately scaled underparts, and a curious, forward-drooping head plume. Its stiffly accented Chi-ca-go call is a common sound of the chaparral and other brushy areas of California and the Northwest. Often seen scratching at the ground in large groups or dashing forward on blurred legs, California Quail are common but unobtrusive. They flush to cover if scared, so approach them gently..... The California Quail digests vegetation with the help of protozoans in its intestine. Chicks acquire the protozoans by pecking at the feces of adults."

I've struggled with these falls in the past, and as I was in the area I thought I would give thme another go. These are the Wailing Widow Falls near Unapool and are quite accessible as they are only a short distance off the main road north from Ullapool.

However, try as I might I couldn't get a shot I was happy with. This time round I tried various filters and exposures but still not right. So, having looked around at what other people were up to on Flickr, I thought I would try a high contrast B&W and also change the format to a square.

See what you think.

I've been on this eastern run for 3 weeks, and it's been mostly fun. Some problems, like today. Need some repairers to the truck, not going to happen until tomorrow. But, I'm starting to miss my western states, and home. I took this sunset back in December in Nevada. I'll probably be back west within a week. Home in early May for several days, my brother is coming out to visit our mom. I've got a couple of photo shoots in mind. The one near his place in Arkansas was a blast.

I've been SUPER busy lately, and will be until early April. I will catch up with everyone soon enough... I am really excited about a big change coming. ;-)

I've been to Hannover by train many times but on this shoot it was the first time I noticed they have glass gangways between the platforms, which are situated above the main station concourse below.

I've always wanted to get a shot like this after seeing a few here on Flickr but I never knew of any locations where I could achieve such a composition.....now I know ;0)

Hopefully next time I'll catch a 'full stride' as someone crosses from one side to the other.

Thanks for taking the time to view my image. Your comments, faves & constructive criticism are greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to shoot this pear orchard for some time now and when I got off work yesterday and noticed the skies were clearing out I thought I better take advantage of the small window of opportunity that I've got so I packed up the gear and hit the road to see if there were any keepers to be found........

A special thanks to my friends Gary & Carol for inspiring me with their resent comps..........Even though I missed the full bloom I didn't miss the PoV from this amazing "little" piece of heaven...........:)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week................!

~Hugs~

Hi all !!

ok now i've the "EvoX" from lelutka. I wanted to test how I could make it more ... gothic and dark. While the EvoX is not yet in the habit. Well I think I was a bit successful. What do you think?

I've been here a couple of times before for a similar photo. It's only 5 minutes from my house.

We've been seeing bobcats and coyotes in our neighbourhood recently, and no hares. As hoped, it looks like they, or at least this one, have been lying low and staying out of harm's way. Seen in the front garden today, through a window. Predators must eat to survive as well, and I don't wish them ill. Hares and their predators have been doing the dance of life and death for millennia, and it's nice to see both are still near to me.

I’ve wanted to build a sci-fi city again since I tore down Undiri, but it took me five days to disassemble and sort my Brickworld ships as well as the other pieces that I brought with me. That’s FIVE days, my fellow FOLs. I’m sure some have taken more time, but it’s the most I’ve ever had to devote to sorting, and as soon as I was done, I swore off LEGO forever…or about ten minutes, whichever came first.

I went after the city in the same night that I finished my sorting and decided quickly that I was going to build something that wouldn’t take the better part of a week to disassemble, while sacrificing as little in the way of form and detail as possible. This is my first attempt at mountains, as well as any kind of landscaping. The scale is much smaller than anything I’ve done to date. So there were many firsts for me here. All things considered, I’m actually pretty pleased with the results.

Snowy Egret pairs are devoted to each other (monogamous) and devoted to raising their families.

Both adults share in incubation duties, both contribute equally to raising their young and both defend their nesting site.

These beautiful birds have become my favorite species!

(It’s amazing how their elegant white plumage is Always pristine! I’ve been observing them for six years and have NEVER seen their plumage smudged)😳

This pair was photographed in a nesting rookery on Hilton Head Island, SC, USA

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR VIEWS, COMMENTS AND FAVES

VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

I've been going through some of my files and editing some of the stuff from last year that I hadn't gotten to. This was one of my favorite sunsets last year

You've got work to do my spotty little friend. The cherry tree leaves need clearing of little black bugs...(which to his credit is where I found him).

Well now I’ve started on a short hike through the archives and turned left at the Iceland folders, I’m going to keep on going a little bit further. Next stop Haifoss and a slightly longer hike to the bottom of the canyon. Until a couple of weeks before Lee and I returned to Iceland we didn’t know it was possible to get down here without a set of climbing ropes, crampons and hard hats. Hadn’t even considered the possibility of it in fact. We weren't even trying to find out whether we could - we were quite content at the prospect of taking photos from the top of the ridge on the opposite side of this huge waterfall. But then, and with remarkably fortuitous timing, one of our YouTube regulars took a workshop group down to the base and photographed it from the river. Suddenly an hour or two at most morphed into a half day or more of potential, and any last thoughts of trying to shoehorn a diversion to Gulfoss into the itinerary were abandoned. Gulfoss would be inundated with visitors anyway, and we’d rather avoid the Selfiegrammers. Haifoss was for the hardcore only, with the road marked as off limits to anything other than four wheel drive vehicles - not that this stopped a few intrepid souls from bouncing and bumping along the last section of rutted road in their Fiat Pandas. Good luck with the insurance excess Girls and Boys!

The hike itself wasn’t too difficult at all - at least the downhill half of it wasn’t. Easy to follow, yet most of the small number of people who’d come this far stayed at the top and peered down into the abyss while we trooped virtuously into the bowels of the landscape. And fortune favours the self righteous when it brings you to a view like this. Ok, there may be one or two rocks in the river that we would happily see being removed, but nobody from the Icelandic Landscape Photographers’ Guild has seen fit to try and drive a JCB down here just yet, so we’ll just have to live with them I suppose. Mother Nature is usually pretty consistent, but I don’t suppose she can be perfect all the time. Maybe I should have worked on the other shot from down here that never saw the light of day instead. Yes, I might have to put some words together for that one too. In fact I’ve just reworked both of them so it’s bound to happen eventually.

This picture of Haifoss isn’t one of the more than twenty pre-prepared and as yet unposted stories from our Iceland adventures, all of which were written and ready more than two years ago. I was mired down in a book project in the hopes that my children might find it gathering dust on a shelf one day in the future after I’m gone. Nobody else is ever going to look at them very much, and they certainly don’t show the slightest interest at present. They keep on complaining about the joys and woes of bringing up a child as if I’ve somehow forgotten what it was like. I mean they only have one benign little toddler each, and I’ve reminded them enough times before that when they were the ages that little Sennen and Alfie are now, I was dealing with both of them, separated by two and a half years and more often than not one of us parents pleading for a ceasefire. And anyone who’s had more than one child knows that when the second baby comes along it’s more like nine more of them just got added to the family rather than one. Boom! There goes the silence…..

Apologies - I’ve digressed, and you can probably already tell that this particular yarn failed to make the coffee table volume which resides beside me on the office desk where nobody else ever sits. Lee bought a copy - I suspect he’s the only other person who’s ever looked at it. He’d see this image in the introductory page alongside a passage of blurb that explains why I like Iceland so much, but no story. And I think it deserves a story. That’s why we’re here now, at the bottom of the one hundred and twenty-eight metre single drop monster, covered in spray and gazing at rainbows. It always impresses me that these huge waterfalls can produce their own microclimates, complete with fairytale rainbows hanging across the scene. A dramatic world in miniature that few will ever find because of the effort required to get here at all. Playing with a curious mixture of focus stacking and time blending because I wanted that rush of texture in the foreground flow, but I’m greedy and I was also after the hanging sheets in the waterfall set against the stubborn brown walls of the canyon.

And yes, I did hike down here in my wellies. All the better to get into the water with, unless I wanted to attempt to cryogenically preserve my feet for the next twenty-thousand years. It seems I’m content to do that with quite a lot of these pictures, so why not add feet to the archive? Perhaps not. And do you know what? I just had a look at the folders where I keep the raw files, and thirty-five groups of images haven’t even been touched at all. Thirty-five! Even I’m shocked by that. Ok, some of them are probably never going to make it into the editing suite, but that’s a lot of images from the biggest landscape photography trip we’ve ever made, just lying around completely ignored for more than three years. I’d forgotten many of them. About time I started re-acquainting myself I think.

I've been on a bit of an Eider duck streak, but you probably don't know this because I've only posted one other shot of the duck(s) recently. This is my favorite recent Eider duck swimming in water shot so far. :)

I’ve posted his image before… but just re-worked another that I wanted to share along with the memory … Abraham lived in a residence for mentally disabled adults in a corner building by my last NYC apartment … each time I passed by his building he never failed to greet me with a warm and genuine smile …. followed by the the same “Hi …how are ya” …to begin the conversation …. that connection affected me so much so that I’d even walk out of my way sometimes for that extra long New York City block just to receive it …. and the day after I made this shot I was actually excited to bring him the print of the street portrait … I wasn’t sure how he’d respond … but happily his face gave off such a glee and surprise and joy … the memory of that reaction still satisfies and comforts me all these years later … I’m certain that Abraham didn’t have many worldly possesions … and also certain that he treasured that print as much as I treasured his reaction to receiving it …. it was my gift to him and equally his to me …. I miss that daily encounter … it remains one of my fondest NYC memories … and when I re-worked this image last nite it all came back to me with such strong and good emotion that I had to share it here … reminding again how much kindness and warmth and connection one to another can impact and affect the soul … I think …especially in these times … that’s not too bad a lesson to carry forward …

I've seen many pictures of this ancient place, read many books about it, and seen many documentaries. None of it prepared me for the awe I would feel when I saw it with my own eyes. The scale of the place is huge, and the setting is fantastic. Trying to do it justice in a photograph is almost futile, and even a pano as wide as this will only give you a hint of what it is like to be there. Go if you possibly can!

I've tinkered around with this one before but was never truly happy with it, far too much contrast and drama when all it needed was a gentle nudge here and there.

This was taken at silly o'clock and wasn't my intended subject at the time but fast running out of ideas and the dawn already giving it's best I decided to sit on the fence with this one.

Thank you for passing by :)

I've been wanting to go way back in time once again to visit this extremely well built, well envisioned sim and store called "Prehistoria" for some time now, once I got through most of my holiday Flickr blogging. These prehistoric creatures are the best I've ever seen, and all are created by Wanders Nowhere... and the build here is well worth a visit just for itself with amazing dinosaur bots placed strategically all over the different geographical regions of the sim! I myself own a "Parasaurolophus" which is a large, plant-eating dinosaur. (see sample pic from Prehistorica here: gyazo.com/3410dbeeb6bd2d84810e3e18da182fbe ) They all have HUDS with very generous, beautiful textures and are all extremely realistic, very well made having totally believable animations and sounds. Do yourself a favor and visit the Prehistorica store and sim for an exciting adventure - and you'll find so many opportunities for fun photo ops, too!! (don't worry, they won't eat you!) They even have a gift velociraptor avi and both male & female time traveler avatars for you to take home with you, and some to ride for free within the different sims... You won't be disappointed when you see the huge selection of available dinosaur avis and even a ferocious-looking new dragon avi now as well. Come experience Second Life's very own Jurrassic Park adventure! Prehistorica @ maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fort%20Nowhere/88/167/53maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fort%20Nowhere/88/167/53

I've posted shots of Mount Shasta from this location several times over the years, everytime a totally different look. This was just before dusk, didn't have time to wait for the sun to set, so instead I used a pretty slow shutter, well as slow as I dared without my tripod. Wanted to capture the foreground, not have it be silhouetted. Love the dynamic range of this camera and the great in camera stabilization.

Stopped in Ashland Oregon tonight with less than 300 miles to drive tomorrow. Unfortunately my delivery in Portland isn't until 11 PM. The good news for me is I'll have several hours of free time to spend uninterrupted on Flickr.

Niw here's a Mount Shasta shot I posted in May of 2016 with some pretty sunset colors and clouds. I didn't plan it, but both compositions are almost the same.
