We've had a lot of weird weather here in Alberta lately. It rained and then snowed all in a matter of a few hours. Today turned out to be a beautiful afternoon for a photo walk, and the snow on these berries was the perfect reminder of how beautiful winter can be.

I've Always Believed the Best Hike Is the One You're Walking

Opening one's eyes to see all around

While listening to a conversation some birds share

The smell of pines from an evergreen grove of trees

Or the passing breeze of a wind blowing that started far away

But there are times I relish with my past hikes

Remembrances of places visited

And an image captured

I still believe the best hike is that one you're on

But there are some nice memories I can't help but relive

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in Redwood National Park while walking the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail. My thinking in composing this image was to capture the view looking up to the skies above. The idea was to have the tree tops come together as if spokes on an unseen wheel. The rest was a matter of metering the image to not blow any of the highlights in the brighter portions with the clouds and skies while still at being able to pull out the more shadowed areas later in post production.

I' ve participated on a quick event in Budapest at "Akvárium". We decided to paint on cellofoil.

Also I want to give the credit where it is due:

The idea of using cellofoil as the painted surface were invented by two French graffiti artists Astro and Kanos, we thought we give it a try, and to be honest, we freaking loved it. Find out more about them at www.cellograff.com/

I've just stumbled across another batch of previously unposted pics. These are from the Northeast, in August 2018. This is Sculptor, Ray Lonsdale's iconic work "Tommy" aka Eleven Oh One, which refers to the first minute of peaceafter the armistice was signed that ended the Great War. I've visited Tommy several times. He always brings a lump to my throat and, on more than one occasion, a tear to my eye. Guess I'm just a sentimental old fool.

I've seen these guys catch some pretty big fish.

That itty bitty morsel must just be the first course!

We've moved in to the KraftWork Heathrow 1970 Retro 747 Upper Deck skybox that's available at 6° Republic and this little guy better behave!

If you haven't already seen it, the skybox is INCREDIBLE. There's even a lower deck for the ahem coach passengers, if that's how you like to travel. We prefer first-class (*^∀゚)ъ

The current round of 6° Republic ends May 20th.

If you want to know more about this look, have a hover and see the credits for the rest of my 'fit and the decor as notes on my photo.

I've never seen leucism (lack of pigmentation) on this species before. I've seen in a few other species though. There was another sibling just like it too. I find it interesting because I have never ever seen leucism in more than one bird at a time. The parents nearby had their common slate-gray plumage intact. Anyhow, I thought this was cool to see and share.

You've gotta love the collision of elements. Molten earth becomes fire, which pours into the water which creates steam, which rises high up into the air (and eventually forms clouds and vog and pours rain back over the Big Island).

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but for those who don't know -- the Big Island of Hawaii is essentially five volcanoes, and only one of them is extinct. Two are dormant, two are active.

Of course, even the lava here takes its time, has a nice laid back chill-brah attitude -- other volcanoes, the lava is essentially tense, forming tight bonds so that the air beneath it only escapes at certain times (i.e. big dangerous sudden eruption).

On the Big Island, though, the lava is mushy, gooey, the air can constantly escape -- so, the eruption is slow and persistent. The lava pushes inexorably toward the sea.

Or, in some cases, toward and across towns. Like the town of Kalapana. Kalapana was a thriving little Hawaiian town... until 1990, when the Kilauea eruption sent a metric god-load of lava down to slide over the li'l island burg. You hike out over the lava flow that destroyed that town to get to here, the Kalapana viewing area. It's actually created miles of new coastline -- this island is one of the youngest in the world, and its one of the only ones still actually in process. (There's actually a sixth active volcano beneath the ocean, not far from the island's edge -- in around 10,000 years, that'll form a whole new part of the island.)

Here, in the distance, the lava oozes lazily into the sea. Sending up steam, a sinister red glow, and the occasional spatter of hot lava. Just like how it happens in my pants.

...

What? Who? Who said that? I have to go.

I'll just say this: it's a great place to watch a sunset.

Ok. I get the point. I've been Tagged (AGAIN. REPEATEDLY.) So here are TWENTY FIVE MORE RANDOM THINGS about Me.

1. I tend to Randomly capitalize.

2. My favorite number in the alphabet is Blue.

3. is the magic number.

4. I miss my Dad.

5. I prefer cold weather to hot, but I love thunderstorms, so I put up with the heat and humidity required to produce appropriate thunder and lightning every once in awhile. One of the things I miss most about South Florida are the hurricanes.

6. I type 60+ wpm. I am the ONLY one who showed up enough to Ms. Hall's typing class senior year to: a) Remember her name and b) learn how to type.

7. I hate raw tomatoes.

8. I could listen to Keifer Sutherland's voice for hours. He could read the phone book. I don't care.

9. Writing this made me think of Van Halen's video for "Right Now" so I stopped writing these things down and watched the video on the internet and wrote down ALL of the "Right Nows."

A few favorites:

Right Now...

-there's a bomb factory hard at work

-oil companies and old men are in control

-a convenience store is open

-oysters are being robbed of their sole posession

-our government is doing things we think only other countries do

-you aren't doing what you most wish you were

-your memory is getting longer while your life is getting shorter

Where was I? Oh yes...

10. I can do the Time Warp. (Again.)

11. I have Zero Patience with stupid people. I am working on that.

12. I am very empathetic despite my tough exterior. If I care about you, it is very easy for you to hurt me. But I'll also go to the ends of the earth for you.

13. I did not appreciate the beauty and freedom of my youth, although I listened to Baz Luhrmann's Sunscreen Song incessantly, and to be fair, it warned me of that.

14. I listened to Nine Inch Nails album Pretty Hate Machine so damn much that, to this day, my mother knows the song "Head Like a Hole"

15. I'm skipping Number Fifteen. Because I can. And now you'll wonder.

16. I once broke someone's heart, and, although it was absolutely the right thing to do, I feel badly for deeply hurting someone I once cared about. I worry to this day if he has ever been okay.

17. I love crosswords. Possibly because I love words.

18. I'd love to be a Culinary Anthropologist. I just don't know where that would be both applicable and profitable. I'd also like to tie the photography in with that, if possible.

19. Did I leave the oven on?

20. I prefer dogs to cats. Generally large dogs. Although I have always been fascinated by large, predator cats, particularly pumas, panthers, mountain lions... et cetera. I blame the short-lived but much-loved-by-me series "Manimal" for this obsession.

21. I tend to think and write in Stream of Consciousness.

22. I am a maple syrup snob and will only eat genuine Grade B Maple syrup. From a tree, not a female-shaped plastic bottle.

23. Also Balsamic Vinegar: Roland Four Diamond brand... it's amazing and once I had it, I have never been able to eat the thin, un-aged stuff again.

24. I love high thread-count, 100% cotton sheets. I have probably 10 sets. I do not believe it is necessary to have this many sheet sets for one bed. Nevertheless...

25. I want to travel the country for months in an RV. I want to see and photograph every wonder of our country and eat at odd, roadside diners and dives and historic places, and pick berries and see deserts and oceans and lakes and endless skies and sunsets and landmarks and buildings and sagauro cacti and large trees and moose and bears and rusted out airplanes and wrecked cars and urban superhighways and islands both deserted and supersaturated with 8 million people.

I'd also like to travel Europe by train.

I've taken this photo on my 30th birthday. I was very lucky to be at a nice location during this amazing sunset.

I've had mixed luck photographing sunset from Lonesome Lake. Last winter, I hiked up to the lake and froze my butt off waiting for a completely cloudy sunset. I was able to take one of my favorite mountain panoramas during blue hour, but the alpenglow and golden clouds I was hoping for never materialized.

This winter, I was descending from the summit of Cannon Mountain with no plans to stop at the lake. The Kinsman Ridge trail was a literal frozen waterfall so I was traveling much slower than normal. When I got to Lonesome Lake, the faintest hint of alpenglow was glimmering on Mount Lafayette. I decided to stay and, although the sky was almost cloudless, I did get to see this beautiful soft glow on the high peaks of Franconia Ridge.

It's been 1.5 years since I've visited Wellington Point Jetty, it feels that my photography has changed more then the landscape... Thinking this could be my place to photograph every year and see what changes.

I've finally, FINALLY finished building my silly little town in Second Life. It goes by the name of Quirk, and it certainly does live up to that name! I'm still trying to work out if I'm proud of it or ashamed of it, because of its oddball weirdness, but at least I can say with certainty that it's done. Well, I'm kind of certain it's done, anyway. Mostly. Maybe. Meh. I don't know anymore. I think I might have melted my brain, working on it. lol

Anyway, if anyone wants to go there for a visit, to look around or take photos or pass out drunk on the furniture or to see how weird I am as a creator of things in SL or just to scoff all the cakes in the café while playing games in the games room, you're welcome to stop by anytime!

Be sure to look at all the little things when you stop by the town. The fine print is often the funniest, I think.

UPDATE: Quirk is now closed. Sorry about that. It had a limited run.

Well… I’ve been digging around in my archives again! :)

In the description of the photograph that I posted yesterday, I mentioned that it had taken me at least four hours to process from start to finish. I should probably also have mentioned that this was more the exception than the rule though… since most of my images take me less than an hour to stitch, blend and process.

That got me thinking about the shortest time that I’ve ever spent processing one of my Vertoramas… and that got me searching my archives (again) for something that I could process as fast as possible… while timing myself.

Okay… I’ll admit that this isn’t a particularly interesting composition… and I’ll also admit that I could have done a better job of the stitching… but now I know that it took me exactly 23 minutes to create the final JPG image (with watermark and drop-shadow) from the two original RAW images. That’s definitely a record for me!! :)

I've been waiting for this to start taking shape. It is part of the Delta Junction of HS2, specifically where the north Birmingham chord joins the main line. We are looking north along the HS2 main line, running underneath is the existing main line between Water Orton and Lea Marston. There will be six tracks on HS2 here; three on the main line, on the viaduct that travels straight across in the foreground, it forms the River Tame West Viaduct (the Tame is behind the camera). Alongside is a single track part of the main line, separated to allow the Birmingham chord to join, that is on the River Tame East Viaduct. The other two viaducts will rise over the main line and curve towards the camera, Water Orton No. 1 and Water Orton No, 2. There is lots to see, including people working inside the viaduct segments, and lines of segments in the background waiting to be moved forwards. The segments are made nearby (off to the right of camera), and each is cast using the previous segment as a template, so they will fit together nicely. The train is also an HS2-related working, 4H96 Small Heath - Tunstead.

I've been so sick with these germs for way too long- Dr says it's bronchitis and a sinus infection. The ER run was a bad reaction to an antibiotic that was practically toxic to me, that I never knew I would react to.

Even so, of COURSE I painted last week! I urged family onward in the art quest! So these are my offerings- Bicycle 1 is the first one I did- more careful, albeit paler. I thought I liked it. Until I did Bicycle 2- which was done because I had leftover paints, and in my book, well, that is just wasteful, so I did a speed painting- much more vibrant to me, much more essence of bicycle!

(I hope to post a family collage soon of this work)

Acrylic on canvas board - 9 x 12

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”

As most know this is the iconic Archangel Falls in Zion, and is right before you get to the Subway. I took this in early November last year. I love Zion in fall -- wish I was going this year, but I'll be enjoying the Seattle rain instead!

I've been to Mexico twice and the first time was in 2001 to Playa del Carmen where I met up with a good friend from England and we just laughed non-stop and relaxed for a week. Going back 21 years later was an even bigger change than I expected. I hardly recognize it being the same place but it seems to be doing very well as a tourist town.

I've posted a number of photos looking across Lake Maggiore from the shore, including three recent Explores, so it’s a lucky place for me. Here's a look back at the area from where I took the photos - the Ferry stop and the Hotel Cannero's (outside) breakfast tables.

I last stayed in this wonderful hotel over 25 years ago and it’s been beautifully looked-after/up-graded since then.

So, post a Disney photo today and share it with the hashtag #DisneyFlickrDay to @disphotoblog and @ISO5571 on twitter. Thanks for looking!

I've taken on too many new projects recently so I decided it'd be nice to build something quick and simple to mix things up a little whilst I worked on the more complex models.

Here's a small scene based around a Sony PS-F5/9 record player (also known as the Flamingo). After all, who doesn't love a bit of music?

I've stopped at this spot down the road from me to shoot for a few years now. I used to be able to see where a house once stood on this property and there are flowering shrubs that are now growing wild.

A couple of years back, it had a for sale sign up, but it didn't stay up for long. Now I'm noticing signs that someone is keeping it bushhogged and have removed the old pillars and steps that showed where a house once stood.

I fear that some day soon I will go to shoot the pond and there will signs of new construction and, perhaps, barriers to access.

That will be a sad day for me.

The Consolidated PBY Catalina was a versatile and widely used flying boat and amphibious aircraft during World War II, renowned for its long range and durability. It served multiple roles, including maritime patrol, anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue, and convoy escort, helping to protect Allied naval operations. The Catalina’s ability to land on water made it indispensable for rescuing downed airmen and stranded sailors, earning it a legendary reputation in aviation history.

bởi vì tôi sợ cảm giác bị người khác lợi dụng sự tin yêu của mình đối vs họ ...

Và sau nhữg vấp ngã đó ... tôi đã rút ra rất nhìu bài học kinh nghiệm cho bản thân...!

I’ve been thinking a lot about perspectives. Things are sometimes almost unrecognizable when you look at them from a different perspective. Like waves. You usually see me post photos of waves that I’ve shot from the beach. But if you’ve ever looked at them from above, they take on an entirely different, often a more abstract, look. Different, but still beautiful.
