MGZB in the attractive livery of Birch Grey over Twilight Grey, registration 663 DKM , this car belonged to one of our collectors. The ZB version of the MG Magnette superseded the MGZA and was launched in 1956. It was more powerful than its predecessor and some bodywork modifications on some of the new models included a wider rear windscreen with a wrap-around curved effect round the edges. The ZB was only produced for two years and latterly, the two-tone variant became available with the bonnet, roof lid painted in a lighter shade than the darker bottom half of the body.
1500cc BMC B series engine, these were known as Varitones because of the two tone colour schemes.Look at that Bean 14
in the garage.

I had a bizarre task set for me this week for my journalism degree. It was called psychogeography. I had to find a feature in a very small box placed on a map of London. Mine was just around Cambridge Heath station. I saw this little alley en route and wandered what was going on...

The only shot I took of a trusty subject tonight (due to bad weather). I know I'm getting desperate now I'm nearly at the end . . . . my only other shots were of the wall of McDonalds :-(
Processed in Photoshop, cropped original image and Varitone Photo Stylizer applied in Color Efex Pro. Finally all sorts of Lens flare effects added to make it a little more interesting.
Interesting 'transition' car in between the ZA Magnette with the chromed hockey stick side trim and the later Varitone ZB with the wrap-around rear window

I am still adjusting to using this wider focal length, after all I have had an 85mm lens welded to my camera for the last few months. I had to head back home the other day, get the district line from victoria. Forgot how much fun that station was.

I managed to negotiate my way into a closed off community of art studios hidden away by cambridge heath station, as part of a feature I am working on. The studios were built in what used to be an old brush factory.... Awesome backdrop to create stuff in and a really cool place to walk around. they just wouldn't let me in to any of the studios, given that they have had a few turner prize winners its understandable...

Out late one night slightly worse for wear trying to negotiate my way back home through the ghetto's of east London while carrying my slightly less than inconspicous 85mm. We call it the gauntlet..
I liked the light on these cars, a lot. Reminds me of the nice lighting in Tokyo, not the horrible orangeness of London...
god that 85mm is sharp.
