Values in the eyes of beholder ; Variety with elegance is the spice of an art.

Photo from Sharjah International Photo exhibition .

This is going to be the start of a series of photos I intend to make that define different words. For this image, I selected "Value" and felt that using simple US bills would be inadequate; thus, I found someone that was willing to let me hold a fraction of their valuables to photograph. Instead of shooting it on the available concrete, I took off my black bandanna, laid it on the ground, and waited for a cloud to give the right lighting(the sun was horrible).

The building was later occupied by a Payless Drug Store which until the late 1990's hadnt made and major renovation to the facade of the building. (Unfortunately I didnt get a photograph) The building is currently occupied by a Rite Aid which has not put any effort into both the inside and outside of the store.

To ensure the resale value while simultaneously protecting the paint - clear bra is the way to go. With our most popular package, the full front end, the car will have clear bra applied to it's full hood, bumper, fenders, and mirrors. We throw the headlights in for free which is a $200 value. Each panel is covered in a solid piece of Venture Shield clear bra. Since we're a custom clear bra shop we hand trim our clear bras instead of installing pre-cut kits. Pre-cut kits are ill fitting and frequently do more harm than good. For a hand trimmed custom clear bra, don't hesitate any longer! Call today, our number is 469-522-7777.

While walking in Dupont Circle area of Washington DC the United States Nation's Capitol Ryan noticed the windows of the hardware store had a display of martini glasses and shakers (some fancy hardware). Washington DC is a very coservative political town which is what made this stand out even more. Enjoy this window display in the Dupont Circle area which is about a ten minute walk to the white house.

Respect. The third of the Army Values. Treat people as they should be treated. In the Soldier’s Code, we pledge to “treat others with dignity and respect while expecting others to do the same.” Respect is what allows us to appreciate the best in other people. Respect is trusting that all people have done their jobs and fulfilled their duty. And self-respect is a vital ingredient with the Army value of respect, which results from knowing you have put forth your best effort. The Army is one team and each of us has something to contribute.

I now have 6 owl bells in my collection. Grandma Susan collected bells and our SIL Julie has them in a curio cabinet at her house. Every once in a while I pick one up in memory of her. I try to keep with an owl theme just to make it more challenging.

A Perplexing Lesson in Aesthetics and Exchange Value Took Place on Jersey Street And Then On East Houston in Lower Manhattan.

It all began on Jersey Street, which is an alley between Lafayette and Crosby Streets in Lower Manhattan, on May 4th 2008. As I was heading home I saw two large paintings resting up against a wall. Nobody was around so I assumed that they were being discarded. Upon closer inspection I saw that they had been executed on fine heavy linen and that the stretchers were professionally made. The pictures themselves were representational and very well done in a contemporary manner. I guessed that they were originally destined for display and sale in a high end gallery, but somehow never made the grade. But why were they being tossed out? What was the back story? I never learned anything more about their origins but I did learn a lot about of puzzling things about aesthetics and exchange value.

I ran home to get my camera to document " art on the street' rather than " street Art " but by the time I returned one painting had already vanished. I got some shots of the remaining canvas. What had begun life as a work of art had morphed into street trash just like that. It was then that I began to wonder why some perfectly good pictures are worth millions of dollars and others nothing at all? Why are some oustanding pictures in museums, Galleries and important private collections while others which are of high merit are consigned to the garbage dump? Of course I knew that some paintings are considered better than others , but that can't be the whole story because everyone knows that tastes and standards change and that often forgotten works come back into vogue.

On the other hand the two paintings on Jersey Street were utterly worthless or they wouldnot have been so rudely discarded. What magical process of exchange value made these two pictures worthless while others were valued at many millions of dollars? I wondered what place aesthetic value had in all of these arcane transformations and transactions? Did aesthetics matter at all or was it all clever marketing and promotion? What made one painting a treasure and another one trash?

Then I was off to East Houston Street at the corner of the Bowery to photograph a newly painted replica of an old Keith Haring mural, now long gone, which graced the same spot many years ago. I got some good shots and after I finished I stopped off at Billy's Antique and Prop shop which was only a few steps away. Billy always had something interesting to look at and to photograph and today he did not disappoint. There, outside his shop were the two paintings from Jersey Street. How did they get to Billy's? Were they now for sale? I was told by Billy's assistant that they had just been purchased from a street picker for $ 5.00 each. And so they were no longer worthless trash , but once again art objects, albeit of modest value. Nevertheless a second magical transformation had taken place. The two pictures had morphed back into works of art which had some aesthetic value. Of course they were starting out at the low end, but that they were starting out there can be no doubt.

What did the street picker know? Was he some sort of shabby magician who could turn lead into gold or in this case worthless trash into money? He certainly must have been.

Now that both pictures were reestablished as art the sky was the limit. They were priced at $150 each.

What had really taken place in this perplexing series of transformations? Was art nothing more than a commodity? It certainly seemed so. Is all the high brow talk about aesthetic, cultural and spiritual value just so much hot air used by snake oil salesmen to puff up the value of this or that work of art? Were art critics nothing more than hired flacks ? Was there no fundamental difference between a work of art and the magic words of some snake oil salesman disguised as a critic or a clever dealer?

Was that what happened to works which were now worth millions of dollars while the two pictures I saw on Jersey Street had nobody to promote them and thus they turned into trash? Was the lack of hype and spin responsible for turning them into rubbish? It certainly seemed so. Am I missing something vital here? If so I would like to know.

Have You Ever Realize This Interesting Fact? LIFE & LOVE Both Starts From L, Both Ends At E & Both Are 4 Lettered. Well, There May Be Thousands Of Other Words Which May Rhymes Similarly. But You Know, ‘LIFE & LOVE’ - The Connection In Between Them Are Just Unexplainable – I Mean The More You Keep Explaining Them, The More You Will Drown. Probably You Will Reach The NIRVANA!! :p

The Pic Was Shot Somewhere From The Chautara Of The Chobaar Land. It Was Captured All In A Hurry – 15 Sec Span (Stopped My Bike, Opened The Bag, Opened The Camera Bag, Put ON The IXUS & Finally Pointed & Clicked). It Was Also The Second Day (24-April-2010) After I Bought A New Bike - Hunk. That Day, My New Bike Had A Scratch On Its Right Leg Guard, Handle & Mirror Plate As It Slipped Off While Taking A Slanted Right U Turn. Having Even The Slightest Scratch On New Assets, I Just HATE it. I Really Felt S/Bad, Exactly The Way I Felt When My 2 Days Old Mobile Was All Covered With Dust As I Had An Accident *.

- My New Mobile Set Was ‘All Covered’ With Dust During An Accident On 23-Jan-2010.

- My New Bike Slipped Off & Had Scratches On 24-Apr-2010.

I Find, Both Have A Unique Connection As Both Were New & Both Happened On The Second Day Of Owning Them & Interestingly, Latter One Happened 4 Months Later (Count January As 1, February As 2 …. & April As 4).

Haha … LIFE Is Like This, The Way It Is…. When Something Is Owned With The Hardships & Ultimate Desire, You Just Fall In LOVE For Them Not Because Of The Price Tag, Brand, Color, etc.. etc. You Have To Understand This - It’s Because Of The VALUE.

Value Village on Circle Drive in Saskatoon used to have manual doors that required one to push and/or pull, depending on the direction they were travelling. As of this year, they now have automatic sliding doors from Gyro Tech.
